It's one of these things that you need to see at least once in your life.

Held during the Edinburgh Fringe, hundreds of performers from all over the world gather in a purpose built stadium and play out scenes from history.

Tip: be prepared for tickets selling out fast, tickets costing a fortune and queues. Bring warm clothes and something to sit on. Remember it's Scotland and outdoor stadiums so, you know, hard seats = numb bum.

Went to the Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle. The performances are nightly for three weeks in the month of August. The performance takes place on the Castle Esplanade. I believe every show is sold out. I was there on August 23, 17 and purchased my tickets in May.

A fantastic military display as well as music and entertainment, if you are visiting Edinburgh in August then make sure you get tickets to this! Try and see the show on a Saturday night if possible when it is rounded off with a large fireworks display.

Very cheesy. I think the Edinburgh Tattoo has lost it's way. Too arty and it is supposed to be a military tattoo.
Basel Switzerland is now the Must See Tattoo, very varied but with a military flavour.
Everything about Edinburgh sucks, even the pipe band section was making me cringe, plus the dressing was terrible with no straight lines.
Get back to what people pay to see !!! Also stop the rip off prices, £4.50 for a small bottle of beer and £2 for water, not a good message to send out to tourists.
Fireworks were great but otherwise crap

Great show which changes every year. It's not just Scottish acts and bagpipes either. This year they had groups from Korea, Mongolia, Mexico and New Zealand (the Kiwis were a favorite!). There was music, dancing and even stunt motocycle racing! Oh and the whole show ends in fireworks. Beautifully done and well worth it. The seats facing the castle are the best and I found that you could get them cheaper if you got the sections right at the corners.

What a great show and performance by some of the world's best military bands. Some of the countries represented were Norway, Canada, USA, Australia, England, and Scotland, just to name a few. Performances ranged from bands playing traditional songs, popular Disney song, dancing, projections on the Castle, the Jubilee Crown, and fireworks. It was a wonderful show and very entertaining to see.

I had wanted to go for years & when I got the chance it was even better than I thought. I had watched it so many times on TV but it is even better being there. The atmosphere make it so much better & being with people who enjoy the tattoo makes it so special.

This experience is not one to miss. Listening to the bagpipes with the looming castle as a backdrop is enough to send chills down your spine.
