I have been to Edinburgh numerous times, and I still find the castle so stunning. It’s definitely worth the entrance fee to wonder around inside the castle walls, learn about the history, and take in some amazing views.
A tourist masterpiece. It is not only in the center of the city, it is basically the emblem of it and shapes the whole area. A must-see!
Went with my husband and stayed at a rental from hotel.com called the Rose ... beautiful rental and close to the castle and historical district. Definitely see Queens Mary of Scots castle for a nice view.
I was genuinely impressed by the castle and honestly, Edinburgh in general. Somehow this city seems clearly tourist friendly while still maintaining some magic.
Great views of the centre from the walls. The interior is a museum to the history of the castle and its residents which has a lot of material for the interested.
Very nice place with a good view for the city. Closed quiet early (5PM), you'll spend here 1-2 hours there.
A wonderful and well-maintained piece of history. This was an informative and enjoyable morning despite the inclement weather.
One of Scotland's most visited tourist attractions and well worth seeing. Get there around 1.00pm to hear the cannon being fired.
Supper touristic but it is a must if you come to Edinburgh . It is the most important place for Scottish people so if you want to learn anything about their history and tradition you need to go there . The view of the city is spectacular from the castle
I always felt somewhat disappointed by Buckingham Palace. Sure, there's the guards, but it doesn't look like a castle. This place, however, is awesome. Take the guided tour- it's free with your admission ticket. The history of the castle is amazing.
Beautiful, imposing. It so is the admission. During busy times it's charm is lost due to the influx of visitors
Beautiful monument, great history and a good variety of audio guides on the tour, but the guide guy wasn't that good on his job, specially considering the value of the ticket. The place is great, amazing views and artifacts but was a little bit expensive.
A must visit when you arrive to Scotland's beautiful capital. The most emblematic building of Edinburgh is very easy to find, interesting to visit and it has very good views from there. As was said, a must.
Expensive and (in my personal opinion) not as good as the nearby Stirling Castle. Queues can get quite big and crossing the huge tarmac Esplanade out the front in wind and rain can be unpleasant at best. There are some good views from the battlements however and the exhibitions are interesting and well laid out.
The ques for tickets can be quite long so best to get there early or book tickets online through the Edinburgh Castle website for fast track entry. Tickets cost £16.50 for adults, £9.90 for children and £13.20 for concessions.
Highlights are the Crown Jewels and the firing of the 105mm field gun at 1pm Monday to Saturday. Be there by 12:30 to get a good place to stand and watch the firing ceremony.
We visited Edinburgh castle on St.Andrews Day and I was pleased to find it free to enter to the castle! Lucky us! You can see an amazing view of Edinburgh in the castle, it's breathtaking! I didn't have a tour guide or a audio guide, only walking around the castle by ourselves, but also many historical things to see. It's worth spending at least 2-3 hours in the castle to get the best out of your visit!
Located atop the city of Edinburgh and on the higher end of the Royal Mile is the formidable castle that has stood witness to many a murders, executions, battles and reign. It stands on Castle Rock which is the plug and pipe of an extinct volcano that existed over 500 million years ago. Get an entry pass which includes major sites in the city so as to by pass the line for tickets. Audio guides are available at the entrance to the castle and it would take around 2 hours to visit the castle at leisure. Do not miss capturing stunning photos of the city's landscape from this height as well as the royal mile looking downward.
I always think fondly of this castle as my most favorite of all. Why? I love how is is a little bit crumbly and old, the crown jewels are simple and stunning, and when viewed from the new city, the castle is lit up so beautifully.
An amazing castle with spectacular views of the coolest city I've ever been to.
The war memorial was touching. Looked up my Grandfather who was killed in the Battle of the Somme. The staff there was excellent
