The best spot to watch the sunset in the city. It is a very short walk up, but can be crowded on clear days.

This spot has one of the best views in Edinburgh along with some very cool monuments. Defiantly worth the short hike up the hill.

The best view in Edinburgh. If you're short on time, skip the castle and come here instead. Maybe grab a blanket, some cheese and wine, and have yourself a picnic.

Fabulous morning walk from apartment affording stunning 360 degree views of Edinburgh and surroundings. Only five minute walk from apartment to bottom of Carlton Hill. Blow away those cobwebs!

Home to several monuments and historic buildings, there are some great views to be had from the top of Calton Hill. Start you climb at the eastern end of Princes Street and be sure to go to the northern side of the hill for great views across to Leith and the North Sea.

The famous Torchlight Procession of Edinburgh's Hogmanay ends up in the Calton Hill. Here you can look down the flicking torchlight of the city. There will be fireworks. Be hold!

Calton has great views of the New town & Edinburgh Castle. The site itself has intresting monuments to Nelson & Scotland's disgrace - 12 columns standing unfinished.

Possibly the most accessible hill in Edinburgh. Just a 5 minute walk off Princes street and voila! A stunning view of the Princes Steet, New town Leith and the Arthur's Seat. Be sure that you go up Calton Hill on a bright day and to bring your camera!

Lovely park and the first public park in Scotland. Such a quick walk, but there's plenty to see. Numerous memorials and monuments as well as an art gallery provide further intrigue to this area.

I came here once for Beltane, on April 30th. It was almost cool enough to plan your trip to Edinburgh around this holiday. But the park/hill is beautiful year-round, with gorgeous views of Edinburgh.

On the night before May Day (Beltane in the Pagan calendar, April 30), the entire hill lights up with fire and body paint and drummers and all manner of coolness. (I hear Halloween is similar.) Other times, you can check out the recreation of the Greek Parthenon, or views back to Princes Street and the Edinburgh Castle. Photographers shouldn't miss it!

Calton Hill provides a great lookout over the whole of Edinburgh. The hill itself sports some rather odd structures (looking vaguely Roman), and overall provides a nice experience. I'd recommend taking the trip up if you have the time.

This is hill is close to the center of Edinburgh and visible from many locations. It is an easy climb to the top where there are an number of curious buildings including an observatory, an old cemetery (including the tomb of famous philosopher David Hume) and an unfinished attempt to recreate the Parthenon in Athens. Best of all is the good view of Edinburgh.

Calton Hill is a very nice short walk from city center. At the top, you have a beautiful view of the city. There are a few historic monuments on the hill. There are plenty of benches and lawn to sit on and just take in the city and ocean views from above.

A great place to get pictures of the city, especially Leith and the forth. Also a favourite for fire festivals. Calton hill is now famous for it's annual Beltane and Samhain festivals on May day and Halloween.
