illuminated gospel manuscript was hand-written by Celtic monks around the year 800. The manuscript, written in Latin, is bound in four volumes; they contain the four Gospels of the New Testament. It is a work of extravagant beauty: a true masterpiece of calligraphy, illumination, illustration and ornamentation. Two of the four volumes are on display at the library.

The Book of Kells is a manuscript of the Gospel in Latin, with amazing artwork and details preserved from around 800 AD. The museum where it is held does not allow photos to be taken, and is located in the Trinity College Library. There are dozens of other manuscripts also held with the Book of Kells. History buffs will LOVE it.

This was my number one thing to see in Dublin. LOVED the library where the book is housed. It is fantastic, something you don't see every day. You will only get to see two pages of the book on the day you visit, and it is an amazing piece of work. It is really worth it to read up about it before you go and look at the pictures. It is a shame you cant see more, but it is very fragile and needs the protection.

A must-see, and for that reason, a must-get-there early. Beware of the fact that hours change seasonally. Students, make sure you have your ID to receive the discount! A really lovely experience, would have been less lovely if I hadn't arrived early and gotten a good place in line.

The exhibition itself is not worth what you pay but the old library is stunning.

Reviewed this elsewhere but one of the most important manuscripts of its kind. Dates from the 9th century. It's inside Trinity College Dublin so leave enough time as it can be crowded.

Irish monks played a vital role in saving the learning from classical times. Preserving and replicating bibles and other literature. The Book of Kells is a spectacular example of some of this work. Amazing artistry in the illustrations, truly a cultural wonder.

The Irish are so proud of this that you are sure to cause offense if you've come all the way to Dublin and have not seen this. Frankly speaking, I think you have to be Irish and feel a personal connection to the history in order to really be impressed by this exhibit. The book itself is quite small and not particularly distinctive. That said, this is a nice add-on to a visit to Trinity College if the lines aren't too long.

The iconic images that are on display are beautiful. Several pages are displayed and if you have ever loved graphics, you must visit this small room devoted to these gorgous images that are so important to history.

In Trinity College, the Old Library and the Book of Kells Exhibition -is a “must see” on the itinerary of all visitors to Dublin. Located in the heart of Dublin City, a walk through the cobbled stones of Trinity College Dublin will bring visitors back to the 18th century, when the magnificent Old Library building was constructed. Inside is housed the Book of Kells - a 9th-century gospel manuscript famous throughout the world. Visitors are welcomed by the friendly staff seven days a week.

The Book of Kells was the four Gospels of the New Testament as well as some other texts. It has decoration that combines traditional Christian iconography with the ornate swirling motifs typical of Insular art. I found it very interesting and I learned a lot.

The Book of Kells is a magnificent illuminated manuscript that contains the four gospels of the new testament. It was created by Celtic monks around the year 800 A.D. A page is turned daily so even if you've visited the book multiple times there's always a new page to look at and it's well worth looking at as the art inside of it is stunning.

The Book of Kells, thought to be one of the oldest known books, is on display at the Old Library in Trinity College. The actual book is behind glass, and the change the particular page its turned to each day.

Absolutely incredible exhibit. Covers more than just the Book of Kellls and also shows videos of artisans recreating the texts. The information about the whole process of creating these books was fascinating.

Luckily we went during the off season so there was no wait. The book itself is cool to see and there is an exhibit showing other pages of the book (you only see two pages that I believe the curators turn daily).

I feel this is one that you should see just based on history and its popularity.
