congested roads. Abras ferry people between Deira and Bur Dubai. For one dirham (about 30 cents), you can go from one side of the creek to the other in a trip that takes only a few minutes. As a significant part of Emirati history, an abra is a simple, medium-sized boat made of wood and powered by a single engine that chugs away at the top of its voice to transport about 20 passengers at a time. Driving styles are unorthodox by western standards. Typically, abra drivers use their feet to guide the sterns. As the authentic way for people to get around Dubai, riding an abra is a must when you tour the city.

This was an awesome experience to have in Dubai. The Abras were very fast and low to the water. It made for a wild adventure and was definitely worth the dirham!

This is true Dubai experience. Abras are full memories of old Dubai. Traditional Arabic architecture building on the banks are scenic. During winter season, scene of arrays of sea gulls are fantastic.

Great experience to tour across Dubai Creek and then you are in old town, which is so amazing; it is like you are in back old ages. The best time to tour is evening.

It's cheap for water bus to carry you across the Dubai creek. Good to have different experience.

Dubai's old town area is separated from the rest of the city by the flowing Dubai Creek, meaning that navigation between the two sides requires taking a traditional water taxi called an Abra. These boats run back and forth all day long and only cost AED 1. Not only are they a practical mode of transportation, they're also really fun to take!

Catching an abra across Dubai Creek is a unique way of moving between the souk areas in old Dubai. Mostly local workers but lots of tourists as well. No tickets, but when the abra driver bangs his money box, you know it's time to pass down your 1 Durham fare.

Short, sweet and feels a bit more authentic than the other tourism options in the city. A nice way to catch a glimpse of life along the creek. A must see if you are in Dubai.

Where else can you get a river crossing for Dhs1? A traditional introduction to the watery heart of Dubai.

The boat ride at the Abra Dock was pretty amazing. At only 1 dirham (pay to boatman direct), no frill, serene & authentic, it's a must :)

For merely 1 Dirham you too can ride the abra. It's a fun, quick way to get to the other side of the creek. This is one of the traditional modes of transport for the Emirates. It's a must do while visiting Dubai. Enjoy the moment and the people watching! :o)

the place is beautiful for someone looking out to experience and observe the centuries old trading... its also a fun and express way to go to the other side where trade is busy and its best... you can find souvenir shirts for 7 dhs....not bad...

Crossing the creek on an abar like the locals do was a fun and short little dubai experience for us. The ride is not more than 10 minutes, the cost is negligible (even for expensive Dubai), yet the memory of this crossing lasts a long time. This was really one of those rarer experiences while in Dubai where we were in close proximity with the locals who are not sporting expensive watches or sparkly jewels.

Nice experience. It get's windy and cold though at night so take something to wear.

Probably the cheapest and most authentic activity you could do in Dubai! One dirham (thirty cents) to ride the Abra from one side of the river to the other. An Abra is a traditional wooden boat which carries approximately 20 people. Catch the Abra across Dubai creek from Deira and go across to Bur Dubai, where there is a souk to walk through and shopping in.

Abra is a traditional wooden boat. We took it at around sunset, and the golden glow along the Dubai Creek was lovely.
