Nice, modern and comfortable. A little cold, lacks personality... Nice sports bar at the ground floor with delicious dishes.

The Westin Book Cadillac is an iconic hotel that embodies Detroit’s revolution. The Book Cadillac building was built in a neo-classical style comprised of brick, limestone, and sculptures of Detroit historical figures. After a $200 million dollar renovation it reopened under the Westin. The hotel rooms are luxurious and comfortable, featuring the heavenly bed, which is standard across all Westin properties. The iPhone docking station and oversized soft robes were nice touches in the room. Both the Spa1924 and Roast restaurants are great places to enjoy a world class dining experience. The bar at Roast is the place to see and be seen, but oddly without the pretension. I would suggest the happy hour special from 4:30 to 6:30 at Roast for $3 appetizers and $5 cocktails. The Westin also lends its guests New Balance workout gear, which is a very convenient option for those who like to travel light. The indoor pool and hot tub area looked very inviting, and the hotel offers Spa 19 a full service spa. For a typical Friday night stay I found a great rate for Starwood members on their site starting at $165. I would highly recommend the Westin Book Cadillac for a first class Detroit experience.

There is a reason why it’s a Cadillac and not a Ford. This hotel is the super-luxe model with all the bells and whistles, and a price tag to prove it. Rooms are in the $299-$304 price range with varying rates during events and weekends. Hobnob with Detroit royalty in the bars and restaurants, peek into conference rooms at star-studded weddings or high-dollar conferences. Joe Biden was on his way in today and the cool, elegant lobby was crawling with sharp-dressed guys talking into their collars. Centrally located and filled with award-winning restaurants, bars and restoration efforts, etc. the Book Cadillac is a landmark hotel for folks who care not for petty things, like budgets.

The Book is a gorgeous, storied hotel in Detroit. Terry left a full history, but I wanted to add that the staff is wonderful as well. I live in the residences upstairs and room service is always fast, friendly and delicious. The restaurant Roast downstairs has excellent cocktails and beautifully cooked fish if you're not up for a big steak. Motor Bar's grilled cheese and tomato soup is comfort food at its finest. A superb place and I'm happy to call this hotel my home.

A hotel has stood on the corner of Washington Blvd. and State Street since 1830. As the Hotel Cadillac, Presidential guests included Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. After the Book brothers bought the property, they tore down the old hotel and spent 17 months and 14 million dollars to build the Hotel Book-Cadillac, which opened in 1924.
This hotel is a makeover of the historic Book Cadillac hotel, which was built in 1924. Designed by architect, Louis Kamper, the Book -Cadillac Hotel has hosted Presidents and slews of celebrities including Presidents Hoover, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Carter and Reagan as well as Dr. Martin Luther King, Sammy Davis, Jr., Frank Sinatra, Joe Louis and Joe DiMaggio. Many scenes in the 1973 cult film, "Detroit 9000" were filmed in the hotel.
After falling on on hard times in the 1970's, the hotel closed in 1984 and was liquidated in 1986.

In 2006, it was purchased for redevelopment by the Ferchill Group, who worked with the City of Detroit to preserve the historic building. After a 200 million dollar, two-year restoration, the hotel re-opened in 2008 as the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit with 453 hotel rooms and seven floors of private residences.

If you love sleeping in historic hotels, this is a gem. I only wish it showed off its history in public waiting areas downstairs other historic hotels do.

My only disappointment with the hotel was its in-room mini-fridge that was chock full of items for sale with no room for me to chill water from the tap when I refilled my reusable eco-friendly Swell water bottle (which keeps water cold). The room was a bit too commercial for me in terms of its mini bar.

Very nice hotel. They did a great job at renovating and bringing this landmark back to life. The second floor bar has one of the most beautiful vaulted ceilings! Well worth stopping in to have a drink.

Fabulous location & huge room & bathroom! I'd go back anytime!
