Home to beautiful surroundings, coffee plantations, tons of hostels and adventure opportunities, it's no surprise Da Lat is a popular destination only a few hours drive from Saigon. The city is well-known for being the only city in the world without any stoplights. While most backpackers head out to the waterfalls just outside of town, there are some nice walking opportunities and markets in the city that are worth a visit.

Created by the French colonizers to escape the heat of Saigon, at 1.500 mt high, Dalat enjoy a cool climate. Today is a favorite for Vietnamese honeymooners and families. Some attractions are kitsch for western taste. But food and the outdoors are great for every body.

Dalat is one of Vietnam’s southern gems, which is hugely popular with local travellers as well as foreigners. The weather is a lot cooler than a lot of Vietnam and is a great place to come for outdoor activities. The town itself has remained very charming, despite the large influx of tourists and is set among beautiful countryside. There are a few historical buildings of note in the town, but no main attractions as such, so it is a great place to relax and embrace the welcoming countryside feel.

It's not so much the destination but the journey. Traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to Dalat, one encounters an astounding variety of vegetation. Once you start the climb up the mountain, you start to see coffee trees, as far as the eyes can see. Vietnam has caught up with the coffee producing countries and currently produces the largest volume of robusta coffee beans in the world. Dalat was a French colonial hill station. Some villas and grand hotels are still left standing. Do check out the local market and don't forget to enjoy a cup of vietnamese iced coffee.

Dalat surprises me, the weather of a highland (16c-25c), untouch and full of culture. You hardly see any outside tourist and most of them don't speak English but its ok as the hotel and guides are there to assist. Their nature and sites are amazing and architectures are of French. You can fly there from Saigon or Hanoi.

Phnom Penh

The city of Dalat is situated in the main centre of the Southern Highlands region. It is renowned as a cool, green city with a park-like environment.

Ho Chi Minh City

Forest, lakes and cool weather all year. Old French style buildings. Nice place for couples.
