hip people there, so it’s a good place to people watch or make friends. There’s an area outside with lots of trees and benches, and even a fireplace. Smokers will appreciate that there are lots of ashtrays outside. Inside they have another seating area with plugs and free wifi on the premises. They have a small stage, and have events occasionally. They have an Uban Outfitters, several restaurants nearby, plenty of stands selling handmade crafts and lots of artsy decor and fixtures.

If you like an artsy and unique place to shop, eat, and relax... this might be up your alley. Check out the waterfall, water fountain, the entrance decorated with CDs, the eateries, shops, and places to take a rest!

The name of this place is "The Lab Anti-Mall".

This anti mall is small but very different than regular malls. It's more open and relaxing with sitting areas to relax and have some coffee or tea. Has some eating places as well as a hair salon and some shops.

Billed as the "anti-mall," the LAB is a collection of shops, restaurants and services in a unique space (formerly a night goggles factory). The industrial meets California vibe makes for a fun place to come hang out, and there are plenty of good eats to make it worthwhile. Certainly more enjoyable/less stressful than a typical mall in Orange County.

Small mall that's more of a hipster like shopping center. A few boutiques with various items for sale. I think it's very cute. Shop here to support local vendors!

Hipsters, hipsters everywhere. Like its cousin The Lab, the Lab Anti-Mall is the place to go if you want to entertain yourself with artisan goods, hipster clothes, and old school CDs. Parking is not very plentiful so get here early.

This place can be a pain to find parking. There are not many spots available and a pretty busy plaza!

This adorable place. Never knew how hipster OC can be. A little strange, but definitely a great spot to hang out at. Catered to the fun unique bakeries, coffee/tea shops, clothing stores, yoga studio, tattoo shop and restaurants. Parking can get difficult on busy weekends or week nights. But you definitely won't forget where you parked, if you remember to look down at the front of your space with fun words and statements. Reminds me a bit of the Anaheim Packing District. Maybe that's how they got their ideas from the CAMP.

Great for kids.
Have fun!

The LAB is the anti South Coast Plaza. It's mostly targeted towards hipsters and new age group. The stores primarily sell vintage goods while the restaurants have a eclectic vibe to them. You can find Urban Outfitters, Buffalo Exchange, and other small boutiques to peruse through. Cool restaurants like Pangu, Gypsy Den, and Habana will keep your tummy happy. Parking is horrible during peak hours. You might end up having to valet your car. Worthwhile to check out!

My first venture into the lab was not my last. The vibe here is eclectic, alternative, hippy chic. There's an Urban Outfitters, Buffalo Exchange, and another vintage shop I keep forgetting the name of. There are cool restaurants like Habana, Gypsy Den, and Memphis. The parking can get a little out of control but for the most part this part of Costa Mesa is pretty cool. Definitely a great place to hang out with friends or dates. You can also get a little shopping out of the way as well.

Parking here is probably the worst part, but if you can get over that it's worth a trip here--if not for just the Gypsy Den or Habana. My new favorite boutique is here (Gloss).

The Lab (and The Campus, which is almost across the street) is in Costa Mesa (which is close enough to Santa Ana on the way to South Coast Plaza, the largest mall in Orange County) are called anti-malls. It used to be a series of partially demolished buildings, but have been redone with beautiful landscaping. These days, there are groovy stores (anchored by Urban Outfitters and REI) and really cool outdoor eating venues with tea lights and heat lamps. Great to wander for a few hours.
