If you love snorkeling, then make sure to include Lusong Gunboat to your Coron travel itinerary. With its impressive corals, ship wreck and kaleidoscopic schools of fish, it’s truly an underwater paradise for snorkelers and diving enthusiasts. A word of advice, visit it on noon or any time when the sun is out, so you may fully appreciate its underwater beauty.

The Lusong Gunboat met its fate during World War II when the Americans sunk this boat during Naval battles with the Japanese off Coron. Now, it has become one of the best wreck dives in the area, as it's not too deep and the wreck can easily be swum through, even by beginners. The dive site is found around an hour away from Coron, and it tends to be quieter than the ones close to the town and makes for an excellent outing.

The wreck of the Lusong gunboat is a uniquely beautiful, eerie and haunting place. It was my favourite place out of everywhere I visited during my 3.5 weeks in the Philippines. At low tide the highest portion of the ship is less than a metre under the surface. You can see the wreck so clearly, it’s amazing.

Located just off the southwest coast of Lusong Island about an hour's boat ride west of Coron Town, this small WWII-era Japanese wreck is best wreck site in the area easily accessible to skin divers and snorkellers. Lying on its side in just 0-10m of water with the hull breaking the surface at low tide, the skeleton of the ship is covered in vibrant coral reef with lots of fish life, and little of the damage seen at sites closer to town. It's more than possible that if you hire your own boat to get here, you may have the whole site to yourself.

Bel relitto, si può visitare senza dovessi rivolgere ad un diving, basta fare un bel respiro e scendere.
