There is indeed an old historic area of Colorado Springs, though calling it a district is mostly to humour city planners. Lots to see and do especially if you're interested in Colorado's silver rush.

In 1859, the little settlement of El Dorado, renamed Colorado City, became the first permanent and quintessential Wild West town in the Pikes Peak region. In the boom that followed, it was the site of the Colorado Midland Railroad yards; a glass works that bottled Manitou mineral water, beer, and wine; and prosperous gold ore mills. Today, three city blocks between 23rd and 27th Streets contain another treasure, Colorado Spring’s largest concentration of art galleries.

This rental location is approximately 1 block off of the main shopping and dining area of Old Colorado City. You can walk to enjoy the area without having to take a car trip. Two houses down from this location is a local breakfast favorite cafe. So if you don't want to cook, breakfast is easy and right next door.

Roam around this quaint area know for local art galleries, restaurants and interesting shops. During the early history of Colorado Springs this was where you could get liquor and arrange a date with a "soiled dove"for the night at one of the many cribs. Legend has it that there are tunnels that run under the main street so refined gents were not seen entering such establishments.

Fun and good walking. Some of my favorite lunch stops are Datz Italian and LaBaguette. Summers farmer's market has great fresh vegetables, local art and jewelry.

You have to go ... and it is on the way to Manitou Springs, which is a must see, too.
