The Millennium Knickerbocker is a beautiful, historic hotel in a great location if you're looking to stay in downtown Chicago. It's just a few blocks away from Oak Street Beach and the Hancock building, two really great places to visit while staying in the city. The staff was not particularly friendly, however they were accommodating. The hotel, overall, has a very old school luxury feel, however it does not feel dated. It is in a very busy area, so may not be great if you're looking for a quieter neighborhood stay, but definitely a great choice for staying downtown. One downfall is that there is a fee for wifi—$10.95 a day. Since most hotels give out free wifi these days this seems to be a bit of a dated policy, especially for a higher end hotel.

On a bustling street at the beginning of the Magnificent Mile, this is a great location for quick and easy access to Michigan Avenue shopping, dining, and the architectural landmarks of downtown Chicago. The Hancock building is a five-minute walk away, as is the Water Tower Place Mall. The hotel has a classic décor scheme that feels very luxurious, keeping line with the upscale cache of the Gold Coast neighborhood. There are plenty of fine dining options on the other side of Michigan Avenue, as well as high end retail shops and a few bars (although this particular area isn’t a nightlife destination). The lakefront path is about four blocks away, which is convenient for strolls, running, or biking along Lake Michigan.

During its 85 years, the Knickerbocker has been known by other names, including the Hugh Hefner-owned Playboy Hotel and Towers during the 70s. Nowadays, all traces of its Playboy past have been erased, leaving behind an upscale, if somewhat vanilla, luxury hotel. The location can't be beat—it's just steps to the shopping of Michigan Ave, tourist attractions like the Hancock Tower, and a block away from Oak Street Beach—but the neighborhood has several more trendy options in the same price range.

In addition to the super-convenient location, I found the staff at the Millennium Knickerbocker to be very helpful. When you’re in the hospitality business, that’s a pretty big plus. Inside, the hotel boasts ornate ceilings and chandeliers and all sorts of fancy touches, all of which add to the experience of grabbing a drink in the lobby bar or generally prancing around the place.

I like how the room had a small desk with a computer monitor, making it a halfway-decent workstation. I also liked the shower, which featured marble tiling, large-plate glass, and a rain-style shower head. The Millennium Knickerbocker has been around since 1929, but it’s not showing its age.

This is a lovely, historic building right between Lake Michigan and Michigan Ave. The lobby is impressive with high ceilings and antique touches; the front desk is tucked away in the corner so the first thing you see is an espresso bar when you walk in. The rooms are nice, but mostly unremarkable. Overall, I thought the Knickerbocker was a little stuffy for my taste, but I can see it being perfect for a more conservative visitor.

don't be fooled by the age of the lobby, front desk, and elevators, because those are misrepresentations of the rooms!

rooms are newly renovated with modern decor. nice flat screen plasma in every room. the rooms are not big, but not small and claustrophobia inducing.

restroom came with rain shower, hand held shower, as well as every hotel's must: hairdryer. well-lit and clean!

friendly staff and great service. i would highly recommend the millennium knickerbocker for anyone looking for a reasonable priced place to stay :)

Fantastic location! Just around the corner from the John Hancock Center and conveniently located to all the shopping along Michigan Ave. Beautifully renovated guest rooms - however, they are tiny! Thankfully the beds are super comfortable. Staff is very friendly, especially the guys at the door.

There's a 24 hour fitness center, business center and bar area that stays open rather late. You can get wifi for a nominal fee.

Very nice hotel and staff. The rooms are small, European style but very well decorated. The location is excellent.

I recommend the Miillennium Knickerbocker because it's got fantastic location right off of Michigan Ave and is city center enough that you can hop on the next bus to get just about anywhere in Chicago. The rates are very reasonable and the rooms are nice, beds are plush and bathrooms are new!

This location is also directly next to the Hancock Tower so there's plenty of tourist night life, and one street over from Rush and State streets where the local night life is booming.

My favorite though is that it is right next to LV and Gucci!
