Take a stroll down The Battery and see what all the fuss is about!
Tour some of these magnificent homes, have lunch in White Gardens Park, admire the Charleston harbor!

This is a waterfront park consisting of park benches under the oaks. Great for locals walking their dogs and for the walkers and joggers. As a tourist, the draw is walking thru the beautiful "South of Broad" homes.

Stopped along here during a bus tour. Small park along the peninsula with canons. Beautiful area for a picnic.

This is a must see. Best seen by horse and buggy, bicycle, walking or a very slow drive. But the BEST is just to park and walk the neighborhood streets behind the fancy homes on the Battery. Walk along Queen street, Legare, and Tradd, zig zagging your way through the historic district. There is beauty in every direction. Great for architecture and history buffs.

In parts the Battery is a raised walkway made of giant slabs of stone suspended over a hollow chamber. Some of the slabs are uneven, or move slightly, but not enough to pose a threat to even the weightiest of my travel companions, though it did unnerve a few of us who prefer very very solid ground. Our most recent visit was February 2016, and even in winter, I'd include it as a Must See. Marine wildlife and boats on one side, well preserved Rainbow Row and green park on the other side, showcasing where the wealthy echelons of historic Charleston used to boastfully live. I'd consider it moderately handicapped accessible. There is a ground level sidewalk alongside, which I imagine helps with the crowd overflow. Walking is free, finding parking nearby is a challenge.

With coastal views and a great place to stretch your legs, come here for some fresh ocean breeze and to enjoy the scenic view that Charleston uniquely offers. You will find a few people fishing here and even a few horse drawn carriages during their tours. It is free to park around the area but there's a 1 or 2 hour limit, depending on where you park. There are no bathrooms in this corner, but walk a bit further down to the playground park, and you may find a public restroom open.

We rode bikes along the stretch they call Battery. From the coast guard to the white point gardens and to the waterfront. Many postcards and pictures are of the battery.

The Battery, famous for its unimpeded view of the magnificent Charleston Harbor, lined with antebellum mansions plus White Point Garden. A beautiful walk South of Jacobson Building at 19 Broad is sure to please all visitors, young and old alike. We encourage our guests to experiment with different routes through the South of Broad neighborhood. The grid system of streets make it difficult to get lost.

The Battery in Historic Charleston is a great place to stroll along the waterfront and explore the beautiful southern mansions that have withstood the Civil War, hurricanes, and earthquakes. Also, while walking along the quaint city streets, you can catch glimpses of the famous Charleston gardens behind interesting iron gates.

Beautiful walkway along the park with great views of the harbor and Fort Sumpter. Bring your good walking shoes because it can be a long walk in the summer heat.
