Phuket's Big Buddha is one of the most important and revered landmarks on the island. The huge image sits on top of the Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata and, at 45 metres tall, can be seen from as far away as Phuket Town and Karon Beach. The lofty site offers the best 360-degree views of the island, with sweeping vistas of Phuket Town, Kata, Karon, Chalong Bay and more. Relatively easily reachable via a winding 6-km road leading from Phuket's main artery route, it is a must-visit island destination.

The Big Buddha is situated just behind my villa, you can just see the top of his head rising above the jungle trees. Its towering presence makes many guests feel relaxed and content.

It is a a magnificent building with stunning views from the top. You can write your name on a marble tile and it will become part of the Buddha.

Great view and very spiritual. You can help donate a piece for construction for a small price and write some wishes on the marble tile. Very cool

Getting to the Big Buddha can be a somewhat precarious journey. You'll need to ride you motorbike around the south side of the island, along dirt roads and up the highest hill on the island. At the top sits Big Buddha, the crowning jewel of the island. The towering, gleaming white Buddha is just as stunning as the panoramic views.

The first time we went to Phuket this giant Buddha was still being built. It was fun to go back to see it finished later on. It's the largest Buddha on the island and one of the largest in the world. The views from up there were stunning. Definitely worth the hike!

Phuket's Big Buddha is an imposing 45 metre tall white marble statue that's visible from virtually anywhere in the southern Phuket. It's worth the effort to see the Big Buddha for its breathtaking 360 degree hill top view and a chance to witness some local Thai culture with people conducting their daily worship.

Built in 2004 with continued construction for years to come, entry is free but donations are certainly welcome. If you want a special way to contribute to its construction, you can buy a piece of marble there with your name engraved which will be used to build the base of the statue currently ongoing.

We loved the Big Buddha. The view of the island from the buddha is beautiful. It was amazing to see all the different golden buddhas. They were working on the property while we were there, but it was beautiful none the less. It's a bit of a walk to see the buddha, but well worth it. You pass through a small market place where you can receive a blessing from the monks. It was a very spiritual part of the trip. We were able to offer good wishes for family members and the cats were fun to play with. Definitely a must see.

Rode the ATV up the hill to see the Big Buddha. A great way to do it! ATV was fun and we got to see the view of the hill, some elephants and then the Big Buddha!

Under construction, should be spectacular when finished. Great views in all directions from the base of the statue. Being a public endeavor, the construction process is slow but the place is maintained well enough for tourists to visit the place

Escape the busy streets of Patong and the various crowded beaches with a trip up to the Big Buddha. This spot is one of the most peaceful in Phuket, and provides 360 degree views of the island. The white Buddha, like a Beacon from afar, is equally striking and majestic up close. The sounds of Dharma music and small flags flapping in the wind add to the soothing atmosphere. Be sure to ring the gongs, hang a bell and write a message on a stone tablet to immortalize your presence. The winding roads up the small mountain are exhilarating when traveled by motorbike, but taxis and tour trips are also available for the more cautious.

Atop a hill overlooking Phuket sits this HUGE Buddha who is currently under construction. Great views from atop the hill and an interesting construction site for this soon-to-be mega shrine is a must see on a day you rent a motorbike and explore the island!

It's a giant buddha. On top of a hill. Be sure to bring something to cover up ladies. I know you just got off of a beach, and are wearing very little because it's hot, but this is still a temple, and you must be covering your shoulders. The ride up is a lot of fun. And it's very cheap to take a cab. Or hitchhike with a random Thai person if they are nice enough to take you up. There is also a place to ride elephants on the way up in case you haven't managed to do that yet. Enjoy the beautiful views and donate a little money.
