My stay here was terrible. I would definitely not recommend that anyone stay here.

I stayed here for 7 days, so I have a good understanding and feel for the hotel and the service it provides.

First and most importantly, maid staff will steal your stuff, and management will do nothing about. During my stay, I had over $200 USD stolen from my wallet, which I contacted the hotel about. They were not only unhelpful and uncooperative, but I felt that I was treated very poorly by the manager, Andy Nold. He was supercilious and patronizing and did nothing to help the situation. How could I possibly endorse a hotel chain who treats its customers this way?

Fortunately, at least the bad service is consistent from top-down! because like the manager, Andy Nold, the front desk also isn't very inviting, knowledgeable or willing to share information with hotel guests. If you ask them for any recommendations at all, they're happy telling you "everything is good around here." really? give me an opinion. That shows you have no clue or don't care.

Second of all, the internet NEVER works. This is the 21st century, get with it.

Thirdly, if you look it up, it says that it has "state of the art gym, spa and pool" this is totally misleading as it's not on-site. They're really inconveniently located at a different "sister hotel" that prohibit them from being a convenient service, you can basically call them nonexistent.

There are SO many other hotels in the area, don't waste your time or money here - the Portswood and the Commodore have competing and even lower prices and you will be treated with MUCH better service and amenities and more knowledgeable staff.

Local from Cape Town, South Africa

This may seem a safe choice for first time visitors to Cape Town, conveniently located in the waterfront, but it is a good one. The family-run hotel, located in a restored cold storage warehouse, is stylish and personal. The unbeatable view of Table Mountain, seen from the restaurant and bar area, is a major attraction to the hotel. 34 ultra-large rooms, with white linen, dark wood finish and red and blue velvet armchairs with big bathrooms look out onto this view. The piazza rooms are slightly smaller and look out onto the waterfront. There are also more modern loft rooms set in the roof of the hotel, which are my favourites. The on-site restaurant “Oyo” has a walk-in wine cellar attached, where you can enjoy award-winning South African wines by the glass - not very common in the fair Cape!

Apart from its setting in the heart of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, there is nothing really super exceptional about this hotel. Yes, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and they feature en-suite bathrooms. The beds are comfortable and there are coffee and tea facilities, but it is not that it has not been done before. Nevertheless, it is a pleasant hotel to stay in and a superb spot from where to discover the rest of Cape Town. The service is good, and guests can expect a little ‘something to wet their palate’ upon arrival. End your day with a cocktail and retire to the terrace of the hotel’s OYO restaurant. Try to make it before the sun goes down, as sunsets in Cape Town tend to be spectacular.

15/20; Rooms 8/10, Facilities+Dining 4/5, Service 3/5. Comfortable rooms with a loft feeling to them (unsurprising given this is a warehouse conversion). Personally found the beds ultra-comfortable. Breakfast setting is very good, with tons of atmosphere generated by the harbour framed by table mountain. Other common areas not worth mentioning. The biggest selling point is the location of the hotel, which is one of the best in Cape Town. One of the few places you could easily survive without a rental car, as you can walk to several of the more touristy attractions, as well as a smattering of good restaurants, and the V&A taxi stand is outside the front door. Pretty good.
