A 5 block walk from our home, Puerto Madero is a revamped dockside area. Its converted redbrick buildings contain upscale steakhouses popular with tourists and business lunchers. Sleek skyscrapers house multinational corporations and high-value apartments. Trails loop around several lakes at the wildlife-rich Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve, which draws families and joggers. Spanning the docks, Puente de la Mujer is a graceful suspension bridge.

This is the spot with the Calatrava, El puente de la Mujer. It is a sight to see in the daytime or at night. Lots of great restaurants and shopping there too.

Restaurants, street performers, walking along the waterfront -- it's hard not to like this popular locale. Come for dinner, dessert, drinks, lunch (can you tell where my priorities lie?), breakfast, the old naval ship, or just a pleasant stroll. How can you go wrong? If you're exploring anywhere between/around Casa Rosada and Plaza Dorrego, consider ending your day here.

Waterfront district and former industrial port that has been remade into a modern and chic dining area. Lots of restaurants and cafes to choose from. Nice walkways to walk along the water. Very nice at night.

What's nice about Puerto Madero is that it is so very different from San Telmo. It's modern, pristine, quiet, and, to some, a bit sterile because of that. But walking around the docks along the water, stopping for a beer at an outdoor cafe, and then heading over to the Costanera Sur for a choripan before entering the Ecological Reserve and walking the 8 km around and along the river.... well, this is one of our favorite ways to spend a day.

Do you want to eat a fine barbecue? Yeah, they have it. It's the new city port, not a very historical spot, but good food.

An interesting conversion of the former docks. Found it a bit soulless in places but discovered a good ice cream parlour there.

Puerto Madero is a thriving waterfront of restaurants, museums, and retail shops. It was once the old wharves for storing perishables that were being exported abroad. But Buenos Aires officials recently redeveloped the waterfront to make it more tourist friendly, and they succeeded beyond their wildest imaginations. The Italian restaurant Sottovoche makes great Italian food!

This place used to be an industrial part of the city and it was completely rebuilt to be the coolest place to go out for dinner, drinks and dessert. All the warehouses along the river became restaurants and bars, they kept the cranes for merely decorative purposes, which give it a very hipster look and it's a safe area to go for a walk at night. On the opposite site of the river are the largest and main business hotels.

Puerto Madero is a modern development on the old wharfs of Buenos Aires. It is home to the fantastic Fortabat private art collection as well as the very trendy Faena hotel. Many traditional restaurants also have branches there.

The Costanera Sur nature reserve is on the east side of Puerto Madero (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Costanera_Sur_Ecological_Reserve). It is perfect for bird watchers and leisurely walks with great view os the city.

This is the newest part of the city. Definitely, a must see, but it always felt too "new" to me...almost sterile.

Touristy restaurants, but still a pleasant area to explore and view the old docks/renovated warehouses. Cabana Las Lilas is probably the best known of the tourist restaurants, but there are better and less expensive options elsewhere.

Local from Ciudad De Buenos Aires, Argentina

If this is your first visit to Buenos Aires, you Can´t miss the opportunity of knowing Puerto Madero. This place its amazing, really beautiful at a sunny day and don't even mention on a warm night. Puerto Madero is an old port completly recycled, with a mix of old building with impressive skyscrapers. Its all a great place to eat, due its full of non-cheap restaurants.
