From the exterior, I could tell the Golden Tulip Savoy was a nice hotel, but it wasn’t until I stepped into the elevator – the wall of which was painted with a giant picture of Evita, who stayed at the hotel many years ago – that I realized just how nice it was. Built a century ago, the Golden Tulip Savoy is a gorgeous arrangement of imposing columns, low-hung chandeliers, and ornately detailed ceilings, all in turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau. But despite the hotel’s prestige, the staff is wonderfully down to earth and friendly. The receptionist who took me around shared the hotel’s history with me (informing me that besides Eva, Einstein stayed there too during his only trip to South America). So even if you can’t stay the night here, I suggest you swing by just for a bit of history and culture.

I really loved this place. First of all, the entrance feels as if you're walking into a classical monument of some kind, yet the décor has a hint of modernity and spunk that makes you feel as if you can be yourself. The chairs have John Lennon's face on them, for example, and there are decorations of the hotel's famous guests from all over the world. The rooms are comfortable and have exactly what you expect after a hard day of work, though they're decorated a bit more modestly than the common areas and the entrance. The staff is also extremely helpful and I actually walked in when one of the employees was explaining Argentinian cell phone numbers to another guest. The only drawback is that you have to pay a bit to get wi-fi in your room, and I would've preferred to have had that included. However, this place is guaranteed to give you a lovely stay and is in great location for business and tourist traps.

It was a special treat seeing the entire football team, Racing, walk past me when I was being shown around this hotel. Apparently, one of the directors of the hotel is also on the board at Racing, which means the team always stays at The Savoy when in town. All the more reason to go back here! Apart from the gorgeous guests, the hotel itself is simply stunning. It has been refurbished, but it maintains a lot of its original details and has been restored with care and attention. The staff were very conscientious and very proud to be working in the hotel. The carpeted floors were inviting and reminded me that I was wandering through a very traditional hotel - a local landmark - where both Eva Perón and Albert Einstein had once stayed… all that information I got from the very attentive and knowledgeable staff.

Very convenient hotel in downtown area. BA is very walkable, close to Congresso, ATM, Disco supermarket, really good pizza. The rooms are very nice, modern and though, not huge, large enough for two to room. The entrance ways and landings are gorgeous. Internet service provide through 4 guest computers was very nice. The staff was all very personable and knowledgible about giving directions, advice and cultural information. The front desk staff went out of their way to help with a sick guest and also to provide me with information on transporting items out of the country. The morning breakfast was wonderful and dinner was good. The bar was great and the liquor strong and cheap. I should have brough some quilmes back with me. 181 Caolla Ave.
