Stayed here on a business trip to Budapest before I moved here. The hotel itself is 'okay'....average for a Hilton in Europe. You need to be aware that the location, although very 'quaint' being in the heart of Castle district is not good AT ALL for seeing the rest of Budapest. No metro access, hard to walk anywhere and taxis must wind up a road to get there making rides long and expensive. If you want to stay in that area for 1 or 2 nights only, or need to for some other reason, okay, otherwise stay in Pest where you have many better options.

Once the premier luxury hotel in Budapest, the Hilton has started to show her age a little bit, however the Hilton Hotel’s main asset is its location which is right in the center of the Castle District with probably the most stunning view of the city. Looking out across the Danube over the city of Pest it is easy to imagine oneself as a guest of the Emperor. The Castle area is one of the main tourist attractions in Budapest so it is unlikely that you will meet any Hungarians in the castle district that are not working in the service industry as tourists tend to dominate the scenery. Luckily Pest is only a short cab ride away and for those visiting Budapest for a romantic getaway, the Castle District exudes Old World charm with its cobblestone streets and lovely historic buildings causing many visitors to be content remaining within its walled confines. The bar and restaurant at the Budapest Hilton have recently been renovated to provide an excellent meeting place for visiting business people or for a relaxing drink or meal with a breath taking view.

Far from the madding crowds of Pest – although be advised that the Castle District gets busy with tourists during the day – is a Hilton hotel that doesn’t really feel like a part of a chain. In fact, it feels Hungarian. Now, ‘Hungarian customer service’ can occasionally feel like a contradiction in terms, but at its best it is genuine and personal, as it feels here: This although the hotel can certainly fill up during warmer months. Ask for a room with vistas over the Danube, the spectacular parliament building and indeed over all of Pest. The alternative is a view onto the picturesque cobblestone street where the hotel is situated. From the Lobby bar you even look out over the ruins of a 12th century monastery. Mediterranean and Hungarian cuisine is available in the Icon restaurant and room service includes both vegetarian and kosher options.

Fairly updated hotel in the middle of the castle district with amazing views of the Danube river and castle. If you can, spring for a room on the executive floor for the many food and beverage benefits. Pros: Fairly modern, gorgeous views, close to historical sights. Cons: A $10 cab drive away from the excitement of the city center. Note: There is also a Hilton in the city center but it does not offer the same views or quality as this one, albeit with a better location.
