Bristol can boast some impressive historical landmarks, too, in the shape Brunel’s beautifully restored steamship, the SS Great Britain.

Brunel's SS Great Britain dominates the Harbourside and is a great visit for families and especially if you're into ships. Launched in 1843, it was the longest passenger ship in the world at its time.

One of Brunel's great masterpieces gradually being restored after lying derelict for years in the Falkland Islands. Also, look out for the replica of the Matthew, the ship that John Cabot sailed to discover mainland America in the 15th Century.

A huge ship sitting there all majestic, and a very good ship to go and visit.

Quite technical, somewhat hands-on and full of little interesting tidbits that go beyond the bog standard 'look at the pretty ship' museums. Steep price is a letdown however.
