Brisbane, Australia’s third largest city and the capital of Queensland, was settled as a penal colony in the 19th Century, and today more and more people are relocating here due to its affordability and tropical climate. “Brissie” is full of interesting districts like the CBD, mixing historical sites and world-class shopping, and the South Bank, full of edgy cafes and restaurants. While it has faced severe droughts in recent years, necessitating the 4 minute shower, the water supply has bounced back to less dire levels. It also boasts an influential music scene, recognized by American company Billboard, and hosted at various bars like the Hi-Fi. Laid back yet cosmopolitan, approachable yet sophisticated, Brisbane is one of Australia’s gems. ... Read more
The hot, sticky weather (average 85°F/30°C) of Brisbane’s summer lasts from late November through early March and is often accompanied by thunderstorms. The weather is best for a leisurely bike ride through the botanical gardens or a trip up the Brisbane River in a speedboat from April through October, when temperatures are in the upper 60s and 70s (20°-26°C). This is also a great season for festivals and events, including the Ekka fair in August and the Brisbane Festival in September.

AN overall wonderful place to visit. While art attraction may lack compared to Sydney and Melbourne, there are great outdoor activities and places to eat.

Brisbane is main city of Queensland and I had chance to spend there only 2 days. Mainly just see the city but didn't visit much.

I was very impressed with Brisbane. Beautiful town, very nice center and a special boardwalk with a cool view of the river and their bridge. Brisbane is also a nice place to stay 1 or 2 nights in Australia.

Brisbane, the jewel of Queensland, is a river city with a newly glamorous reputation: Bris-vegas. Amongst the nightclubs, casino, and budding culinary scene, it's the place to go for bright lights in the Australian northeast. And while the glitz and buzz don't compare to Sydney or Melbourne, Brisbane is a largely friendly place with a charm all its own. For the best experience, hang out and explore the superb riverfront.

Brisbane is THE city to visit if you are an art-lover. The public buildings spend 2% of their budget to install public art. The amount of art installation in the city is overwhelmingly amazing. Brisbane is also quite diverse. The Brisbane River bends across the city, there are sub-tropical rainforest walks, and artificially made beach. Such a pleasant and laid back city.

Australia's pretty river city is stepping out of Melbourne and Sydney's shadows and into the spotlight. Boasting the most popular art gallery in Australia, GoMA, the beautiful South Bank precinct, a buzzing nightlife unhampered by strict licensing laws (as in Sydney) and gorgeous "Queenslander" architecture, Brisbane has earned its cosmopolitan stripes but retained its laid-back vibe. Trendsetters and design lovers flock to Fortitude Valley while fashionistas will take sanctuary in the boutiques that inhabit chic, converted cottages in Paddington's famous shopping strip.

Brisbane is a well-known up and comer on the Australian scene. One of the fastest growing cities in the world Brizzy is just starting to come into it's own on the international scene behind it's big sisters Sydney and Melbourne. A smaller much more manageable city Brisbane is a nice alternative to the big girls.
