The Millenium Bostonian is not quite luxury, but barely a step down. Doormen open the doors for you, there is a 24-hour concierge situated in the vast, bookcased-lined lobby, and a snazzy bar sits on the front by the street. You enter through a covered cul-de-sac where you can give up your car for valet parking (unfortunately, like the wifi in the rooms, not complimentary). It's a shame the desk staff were a little unfriendly at check-in. That, and free wifi only offered in the lobby and restaurant, was the only draw back. There are queen sized beds, with rooms gracefully overlooking the North End and water beyond it.

The Millennium is really one of the best hotels in Boston. Gorgeous and very unique architecture, with a spacious lobby and comfortable rooms.

After visiting the Millennium Bostonian, I think it got that name because you’ll want to spend 1,000 years there. The rooms manage to be both spacious and cozy at the same time. There are a variety of different room sizes to choose from, some even offer excellent views of either Fanieuil Hall Marketplace or the North End. The Millennium has suites which could either accommodate families (one queen-sized room attached to two twin beds) or business travelers (a bedroom attached to its own conference room). Bathrooms in all the rooms were expansive, some may be bigger than rooms at other hotels. Some rooms even have a separate make-up station. The restaurant attached to the hotel, 26 North, has an excellent wine selection and offers patio seating during the summer. The staff at the hotel was really attentive and knowledgeable. I liked the hotel so much I thought I was dreaming. But I pinched myself and realized it’s real and it’s spectacular.

Definitely a treat of a hotel, even if you have no interest in the nearby Boston tourist attractions. A little boutique, a little old boston charm, and a lot of really nice, new amenities make this (very centrally located) hotel 5-stars, in my book. If you're exploring the city, it's even better -- just across the street is Quincy Market and the blocks surrounding the hotel are full of bars and restaurants (and plenty of nightlife). With an underground stop just a couple blocks away, you'll be over to cambridge in no time. Tip: though the windows are relatively sound-proof, request a room on an upper floor to avoid the night-noise of the streets below!

The setup of this hotel is a little unique, as each of its three buildings are connected by criss-crossing walkways. This might be a little confusing at first but there are plenty of signs. It’s not a huge skyscraper but it certainly doesn’t feel outdated. In fact, there are attempts to be state-of-the-art (the minibar is motion-activated: really cool) but also some surprisingly old-fashioned touches, like the small balconies and (in some deluxe rooms) real roofbeams and functioning fireplaces. All rooms come with floor-length mirrors, and when I went there was a pleasant level of ac on throughout the building: not too much, just enough to be comfortable. The variety of rooms for request is impressive, more than most higher-capacity hotels I’ve seen, and they’re especially welcome for larger business or family trips. The staff members are not only polite but intuitive, suggesting things before you’ve even mentioned them. This would be a nice summer getaway spot, as you’re not too far from the waterfront or the North End.
