constructed in the 16th century by Elector John George of Brandenburg to create a path to his hunting grounds. The 19th century saw great growth for the area, making Unter den Linden the most prominent street in Berlin. A famous equestrian statue of King Frederick II of Prussia was erected in its center, constructed in 1851 by designer Daniel Rauch.

Nice avenue to walk. Great historical buildings from East Germany along the way from the Brandenburg Gate to the Island Of the Museums & the
River Spree.

A lovely street to walk down after visiting the Brandenburg gate. Stretches for a while, and is very interesting to explore.

So Unter Den Linden is just a street but it's a good way to cut right through to the things you want to see.
Just be warned, it's completely under construction and has lost (temporarily) much of its charm.

This wide boulevarded street goes from the Brandenburg Gate to Museum Island. Embassies line part of the street, as does Humboldt University, museums, performing arts buildings as well as souvenir shops and cafes. The name means under the Linden trees, which have been replanted since World War II.

Under the Linden Tree, a great street to stroll on. Stores, buildings and tourist sites on your walk. We usually spend quite a bit of time walking on this street.

With the opening of the wall, this road has returned to the centre of Berlin. It is like a walk through German History.

The backbone of the east side of Berlin, the boulevard dates all the way back to the 1500s. It has had many regenerations over the centuries, with the modern look a combination of the effects of Hitler, the DDR and re-unification. The boulevard runs from the Schloßplatz and Berliner Dom at the eastern end, to the Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate) at the western end.

Unter den Linden is a great place for tourists to start on a visit to Berlin. Start at Alexanderplatz and take in the sights of the Fernsehturm, Rotes Rathaus and Marx Engels Forum before exploring the DDR museum. Make sure you drop into the Radisson Blu lobby to see the giant fish tank. As you cross over the Spree, you're then on Unter den Linden and Museum Island. Here you'll see the building works of the Schloßplatz and the Berliner Dom - as well as dozens of museums and cultural institutions (far too many to list here). As you head down Unter den Linden, small detours down the side streets will take you to the Gendarmenmarkt, a visit to Fassbender & Rausch Chocolatier, historic Friedrichstraße station and the Tränenpalast, the fantastic KulturKaufhaus Dussmann (books, DVDs, and music over five floors) -- all before you reach Pariser Platz, where you'll see the famous Hotel Adlon and the Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate). From the Gate, you can head to the right to see the Reichstag, straight ahead to explore the Tiergarten, or left to see the Jewish holocaust memorial and Postdamer Platz.

Unter den Linden (or just off it on side streets) is also the home to many national embassies (Russia, UK, USA, France...).

The spine of Berlin - lined with shops, restaurants, hotels, and culminating in the famous Brandenburger Tor (Gate) that used to divide east and west Berlin, and was used as a party symbol for the Nazis. It's an aesthetic and exciting boulevard, but venture (way) off to explore Berlin deeper.

What the Champ d'elysees is to Paris, Unter den Linden is to Berlin. Though it is a little bit more stark on this street. You know... Communist rule and all. But since the reunification, there is life on this street once more. Starting from Brandenburg Gate it reaches far to the Reichstag. A good portion of the main sites of Berlin can be found along this street.
