what years of the Cold War did to economies, progress and the well-being of its citizens. What is left of the wall today that still stands is located near Checkpoint Charlie, the infamous bridge between the two worlds of East and West Germany. A museum there tells the story of how concrete, barbed wire, glass and guns kept brothers, cousins and friends apart for nearly 30 years. It is one of the most interesting tales to tell of the power of democracy and freedom. The fall of the Berlin Wall was Germany's launch pad to economic and social might. The wall is an absolute must-see for anyone looking to get a full picture on what changed in Germany over 20 years ago.

What a very, very important part of the history.
I was really excited that I visited this place. There's so much history behind it that I can't even think about it. It's truly something else.
It is really sad what happened in the past, and I hope it won't happen again.
This is actually the part that reminds us of everything...which is kind of disturbing and at the same powerful as how great are they doing today.

Very important piece of history. The Wall fell years ago and still we need to remember what happened. All the art works done on the wall are stunnin and some are even breath-taking. Must be seen.

Some minutes walk from Yaam, you will find the renowned remaining Berlin Wall that still stands today open for street art. Depending on which side you start with, you will be able to view the Spree river, which is a good spot to enjoy a drink and a currywurst.

The absolute best thing that could have been done with this symbol of segregation and suffering. Pieces of artwork all down the gallery/wall promote peace and powerful political messages.

The history of this wall is the real appeal. Checkpoint Charlie is a touristy type destination which is filled with not only a great memorial of the wall, but also tons of souvenirs. The curry place by Checkpoint Charlie isn't that great but the wall is in several pieces, so be sure to get some pics in front of it.

Feels weird to give something like this a rating. But when you see it in person, it's just a wall. Spooky when considered in historical context, but just a wall on its own.

Visiting Berlin and not seeing the Berlin Wall is a crime. You would only get to see a snippet of what it was but that is still historic in itself.

How do you review something like this? To this day, the Wall sticks in my memory as one of the most haunting and significant places I've ever been. So much history and darkness is in the air here...mingled with the sweet taste of liberation and freedom. It's especially poignant when you visit on a winter's evening in lightly falling snow.

A must see while you're in Berlin. The artwork on the East Side Gallery was probably my favorite part of the wall that we checked out.

Almost 25 years have past since the fall of the Berlin Wall, but it still feels omnipresent.
Whether enjoying the works of art at the East Side Gallery (the longest remaining section of the wall), watching how the Death Strip looked like at the Berlin Wall Memorial, or just seeing the double road of bricks on the pavement which indicate its former existence, it is everywhere.
Berlin is heaven for history buffs for so many reasons, and the Wall is definitely one of them.

The Berlin Wall is what it is: a wall. Walk down the existing span and take in all the murals and street art applied to it since. You'll notice some are more popular than others. All in all, it's a tribute to a much different era.

The Wall remains standing is a few places but the entire length is marked on the sidewalks and roads as a memorial of the city's history.

It feels a bit odd 'rating' the Berlin Wall with 5 stars (which means "I loved it!"), but lets put that aside and see it for what it is now - a piece of history. There isn't a whole lot of the wall left, just small sections throughout the city. Some are 'official' - like the stretch along Bernauer Straße (where the official memorial is located), along the East Side gallery (which features the famous art installation), and the chipped stretch along Niederkirchnerstraße (as part of the Topographie des Terrors). There are plenty of tours that follow the stretch of the wall; any number of websites will help you find one. Maps are also available to help you locate places on your own.

One of the iconic images of the Cold War, the Berlin Wall is now really just a memorial, but one you should stop and ponder.

Walking by the Berlin Wall is walking by alive history, history that marked a generation and is there to remind the world what should never happen again.

I was fortunate to see the famous Wall still up some decades ago filled with graffiti. You climb up a a small ladder to get to see the other side of the wall which is filled with cross markers, a sign of people who died while trying to go to the other side or the west part of the country.
