Staying at the Hollywood Media Hotel is like sleeping in a (comfortable) museum, with every room containing a photo and biography of a famous film star. The whole star-studded hotel pays homage to well-known 20th century movie figures, from an Italian restaurant named Capone to the Callas bar next to the hotel, set up in the style of America in the 60s. The hotel is also within walking distance to a bulk of Berlin attractions, including Kurfürstendamm (a long shop and theatre filled boulevard often referred to as the Champs-Élysées of Berlin).
If you are looking for a hotel outside the norm, then this is it! Known for its film theme, with a different film dedicated to each room, it is definitely a unique place to stay. Located right on Kurfürstendamm, it is a little West of center, although there is easy connection with a bus right outside the door. Great customer service and wi-fi throughout the building as well as amenities like allergy-friendly, family, and handicap rooms make it both a fun and practical place to stay.
I'm sure the first thing people will point out is the cinematic theme which decorates the entire hotel. Each room is devoted to a Hollywood actor, the halls are decorated with movie posters, pictures of famous scenes, old filming equipment etc. The staff is great and the hotel has everything you'd expect from a 4 star. For me the only negative point is that it’s not really centrally located, nevertheless the center is easily reachable, and there is a bus stop in front of the hotel.
A hotel that's easy to remember. Adorned with and dedicated to cinema, it certainly makes for an interesting stay and if, like me, you find it pleasing on the eye then there's nothing to complain about with this unique hotel. It's well situated for exploring and transport links, and is a welcoming hotel to return to after a long day outside: treat yourself by booking a Finnish sauna session and a massage at reception.
The Hollywood Media is a heavily themed hotel so if constant references to Cinema get on your nerves then don't stay here. For a neutral or a film fan this hotel will do the trick without doubt. Try and get a room facing away from the main road though, as the noise of traffic does seep through and although not really loud it can be a disturbance.
What's really cool about this hotel is the cinema inside that screens traditional films and shows. It's in an awesome location too, so once you've had enough entertainment in the hotel you're on a great launching pad to see and do more. Shopping options are excellent here and there are some quality restaurants and bars nearby too. Ones that I remember are Good Friends Chinese restaurant about three blocks away on Kant Strasse, which had brilliant food. On the same street but further east was Paris Bar, a really old school west Berlin hangout, it was a real experience spending an evening there.
The Hollywood Media hotel comes out all guns blazing with the film decor, and while that's fun and quirky it's good to see they don't ignore the bread and butter of hotel work. Rooms are clean and tidy and they they do offer an escape from all the Cinemania in the serene spa and wellness area.
A must for anyone who doesn't want a generic hotel stay in Berlin.
