longest river gorge in the Appalachian Mountains. Hiking through this land puts you inside one of West Virginia's most diverse habitats and its most beautiful scenery. There are also remnants who made this gorge their home in the 18th and 19th centuries. There's plenty of camping, trekking, boating and fishing to be had in this gorgeous piece of America.

The New River Gorge National River is 1.5 miles from the house. It features world class whitewater rafting, hiking, mountain biking, ziplining and rock climbing. All of the outdoor adventure outfitters are located between 4 and 7 miles from the house.

I haven't been yet, but I can't add this for you to see without rating it. This is the closest place to go white water rafting.

A protected wilderness area stretching along 53 miles of the gorgeous New River, the New River Gorge is an ideal spot to go for outdoor adventure in the eastern United States, with excellent rock-climbing and some of the country's best white-water rafting. I personally have rafted the Gorge twice (both in high water conditions and low), and found it both beautiful and exhilarating at the same time. Strap on a helmet, bring a waterproof camera, and prepare to get wet!

I watched the bridge being built. I remember as a child driving underneath it at many different stages as it was being built.

Camping on this River is Awesome. I have an Owl that tells me good night every night. I can't say enough...it is a must.
