unique climate and even more unique day/night cycle. Starting one day around the end of November, the sun sets and does not rise again until late January. The coast of Barrow can become nearly totally encased in ice during peek winter conditions, and many locals live here only seasonally. Come summer, Barrow goes from frigid to simply cold, and festivities like the Eskimo Olympics test the mental and physical strength of participants with games like the excruciating ear tug of war. Barrow has a small airport that shuttles travelers from the nearby Fairbanks or Anchorage airports to Barrow. Although it’s one of the cloudiest locations in the U.S. Barrow has a dedicated local population that certainly make the most of their unique home.

If you are interested in Alaska native (Inupiaq) culture and Arctic landscape, Utqiagvik is a great place to visit. Check out the culture center, meet locals, hitchhike, and walk around the beach. You will feel the spirits!

A fun little place to visit on the Artic Ocean but not much there. If you go fly in at night, spend the next day, and fly out that night.

Lake Worth

Quanset Hut in Barrow- there is no place like a hut home.
