Description
The 'Magic Fountain' was built for the World Fair of 1888, in Ciutadella Park. Unfortunately, it was not the success story that they had hoped for. For the World Expo of 1929, they tried again. That ... Read more
was when they built the current fountasfafsafasin near Montjuïc which, with colored light playing through the water, seems to make the water dance to the rhythm of the music that accompanies the show. The shapes and colors change constantly, and the effect is entrancing, making it very popular amongst children.

Famous fountains with a light and music show every other night during summer.

With performances several nights a week year round, the fountain makes for some great, free, easy entertainment in Barcelona. It gets crowded, but there are plenty of places to stand to watch the show. Lights, music, water!

The water and light show looks really cool. There are many people there at those times, to sit on the stairs you have to arrive early.

This is a great nighttime budget activity! It's free to see the magic fountain show light up and set to music.

The magical fountain is an easy thing to check off your list if you take a train from Plaza Espanya to Montserrat. It's just a few minutes away from the train station.

The fountain light show IS worth the hype! It's like the Bellagio show in Vegas bumped up 182592 notches on the magnificence scale. The background music genre also changes through the night - earlier shows tend to be set to children's music, while later shows are set to the oldies that appeal to an adult crowd. Get there early if you want a good view - I'm not kidding when I say the entire street fills up with spectators!

I would preferably visit this fountain at night when the light and music performance takes place. There are plenty of sights and touristic activities around so you could combine them perfectly and then go to Poble Sec for dinner!

The Magic Fountain is the main feature of the collection of waterfalls and ponds on Avinguda Maria Cristina, which stretches from the Palau Nacional to Plaça Espanya in Montjuïc.

Montjuic's Magic Fountain is a show that mixes waterworks, music and lights. Very close to the apartment, make sure to double check when the show is on, as it changes from summer to winter.

So much fun! The music and fountain/light show made my night memorable. It is a wonderful thing for anyone to attend. I noticed not just college kids, but families and older couples in attendance. Some really went all out and danced to the songs as well!

Fascinating free event at the Montjuïc castle. Something for all ages, the first show might be directed more towards the little ones (and nostalgics!!) with wonderil Disney music accompanying the fountains water splashes. Beautiful choreography of water, music and colors.

Dancing magic fountain in Plaça Espanya. Beautiful scene at night, an excellent spot to just sit and take a break after going around the city diring the day. There're a lot of people, but not overly crowded, try to come closer to the fountain good for taking photos and get a little splash.

Absolutely loved it! Totally worth seeing. It is only on Friday and Saturday nights from around 7 to 9PM I think. The do about a 20 minute or so show with music and lights, supposedly it repeats the show several times over a few hours starting at 7PM. The show is at the fountain in front of the Catalan Art Museum (the castle looking building between the two towers at Placa Espana). There was a large crowd to see the show even in mid-November (well outside of tourist season).

The start to our marathon debut. Took us forever to find it, we seen plenty of little fountains that we thought to be the place until we actually reached it and had to laugh because how you might miss something so cool!!

One of the most emblematic sights of the city, Barcelona’s Magic Fountain provides great early-evening entertainment – and the best bit is, it’s completely buckshee. In what sounds potentially kitsch but is actually really cool, the fountain and its satellite fountain friends skyrocket to remarkable heights, shape-shifting and changing colour in time to the music and leaving even the most hardened spectators enthralled. Pitch up 20 minutes before show time to be assured of a decent viewing spot – this is one popular fancy fountain.

I fell in love with Barcelona after seeing the Magic Fountains at night. The beautiful cascade of waterfalls from the road leading up to the Museum at the top. What a beautiful, beautiful sight. Climb the stairs or take the escalator to the top, and another magnificent view of the city below. Sit on the steps and watch the sun set over the mountain. I have yet to go to Venice to compare, but Barcelona is a very romantic city.
