When in Barcelona...drink vermouth! This is a great local bodega to try for a true local experience.
(Also, check out Devour Barcelona food tours - in which this is a stop!)

Went here to try another tapas bar. The wait was long, and the meal was expensive. Granted, the food was mostly seafood (their specialty) and it was pretty "fresh"-- but I was astounded by how expensive it was. Perhaps it was out of my price range, but I wouldn't come back. It should be noted that there was quite a wait and many seeming-to-be regulars here. There were also the fair amount of tourists. Try it yourself if you're curious-- I'm out.

This is hands down my favorite tapas place in the world. I first went there for lunch a few years back. My friend and I had to wait for 20 minutes to be seated. I had razor clam a la plancha. OMG that introduced a whole new taste to me, just light grilled razor clam drizzled with herb olive oil. Simple and effective. The tuna tartar was great and we had something else. That was such a memorable meal that I had to go back to the restaurant again last year, this time for dinner. We got there at 10pm and ended up waiting for another 45 minutes to get seated at the bar. We sad next to a local couple who gave us tips on what to order. The langoustine was out of this world. I can't wait to go back again!

Loved this tiny tapas restaurant in Old Town. You have to wait in line forever and when you are finally seated there isn't even a menu. The waiter simply asks you what types of things you like. (Seafood and Cava, please, we declared!). We had razor clams, and skate and other sea food, all cooked absolutely perfectly. The food was delicious and the bustling atmosphere was picture-perfect Barcelona.

Cal Pep in Barceloneta, no reservations, get there at 7 45pm and wait as they roll the garage doors open at 8pm. Between us, price wise I didn't think Tickets was expensive in comparison for what you get. Cal Pep is more a grab and go joint, people will stand behind your seat waiting for you to vacate. Don't bother about them
Honestly though, I see better value in Tickets ---just getting a table is an issue.

There's a decent mix of locals and tourists, but the quality of the food is still superb. It's a gamble with the wait to sit here, but if you're not starving - wait! The cooks whip up mouth-watering dishes in front of you. There's no real menu...you can tell them what you are craving, but I'd ask what's fresh. Or you can do as what we did when we let our stomachs do the thinking: have them cook anything and everything until we say we're full. Really glad we went that route...

This restaurant is always busy and is a fantastic place to have a delicious and exciting meal, as long as you're willing to wait a bit. When we visited, there was a line nearly out the door but we deemed it worth the wait.

While you wait to be seated, you are offered free glasses of beer or wine. You spend your time excitedly watching the meals come out and talking to the other guests in line.

The standard seating if you're not a group of 6 or more is along the bar counter, where you are treated to a selection of amazing dishes based on your preferences. The server will ask you if meat, pork and seafood are ok and based on your response they will bring you dishes to try. If you're willing to try new things, this is a fantastic place to visit.

We had a wonderful meal here and highly recommend it.

In a city of great food, Cal Pep takes the cake. We sat at the bar so we could see them prepare the tapas in front of us. You can't go wrong with the cured meat but for my money, the seafood takes the cake. The fried seafood platter (fish, calamari and shrimp) was perfectly floured and crisp, it didn't taste greasy at all. The razor clams were incredibly fresh. Everything went great with a cold Estrella, too. We spent $100 on lunch for two but would do it again in a heartbeat. Definitely visit if you can, but check the website for their hours because they do work on Barcelona time.

So, this was my first introduction to real Tapas in Spain. My boss recommended this place, and I really liked it. Small, but bright and clean, with a wide variety of options. This is the place where I first had, and fell in love with, the roasted piquillo peppers.
