Local from Baltimore

Brookshire Suites celebrates Baltimore’s history in a really rad way: they have beautiful and candid portraits of Baltimore musicians from Frank Zappa to Billie Holiday to Adam Duritz throughout the lobby and in the rooms. The lobby is sleek and ultra modern, despite the historic look of the building from the outside, and the rooms are set up in a unique way instead of the typical cookie cutter hotel style that most places go for these days. After taking in the rockstar theme, it only makes sense to check out local bands in the area. Soundstage is a mid-sized venue and just a few blocks from the hotel, but for bigger artists, Pier Six on the water is also really walkable. The staff was really personable, and although everything is sparklingly new, nothing felt overly corporate about the place.

Washington, D.C.

The sleekly designed Brookshire Suites celebrates Baltimore's contemporary culture. Baltimore street art and portraits of local artists can be found throughout the hotel. The in-house bar serves Zeke's coffee and Heavy Seas beer. Don't miss the complimentary breakfast featuring local ingredients on the top floor lounge.

Ellicott City

I was really surprised when I walked up to this hotel- I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't the funky, boutique style hotel that I saw. It reminded me of some of the hotels I've stayed at near Dupont Circle in DC, which is a good thing. The inside is all mod in gray and red tones with sleek couches and big winged arm chairs. There was a young fellow working the front desk, and he was really friendly- one guest had some complicated questions and he kept his cool and explained everything well. I'm not sure about the parking situation- it sounded like they had a deal with a close by garage, but it wasn't clear. While I was there 3 guests had questions about parking and then were confused about the explanation- the front desk guy had to go out and show them where to go. It was quiet, though it sounded like they had a couple wedding groups coming through.

I checked out a standard queen room, and loved the decor and furniture- it was very pretty, and the bed looked super plushy. One thing I noticed were that the ceilings were very low, both in the halls and in the room- anyone over 6 ft. is going to have trouble. The room I saw didn't have much of a view, but it's a city hotel- views can be hit or miss. Some of the carpets looked worn, but otherwise everything was in great shape.

Lots of restaurants, attractions, and the stadiums are in walking distance, so bonus for location. Overall I thought this would be a great place to stay with some friends or those that are looking for something a bit different.

I seriously felt like I was walking into a modern art museum. Not a bad thing, just ... whoa. The main doors are flanked by these identical sculptures that sort of look like giant wings or maybe plants? Anyway, very eclectic/mod/artsy/hip/trendy. Staff seemed young and professional. Children are welcome here but I would be worried they would break something expensive and I'd have to pay for it!

Loved the room! Again, very colorful and luxurious, modern furniture with bright, street-inspired murals. Clean, comfortable beds were nice and cushy with plenty of pillows. There was a great view of downtown and the harbor in my room which was especially lovely at night.

As for location, it's probably not the best if you're looking to experience the historic charm of Baltimore, but if you're traveling for business and/or up for a party, it's ideal. Walking distance to Convention Center, Camden Yards, Museum of Modern Art, Royal Farms Arena, National Aquarium, Pier 5, Harbor East and Mount Vernon.
