This hotel is so cool, and extremely beautiful!!! The staff is out of this world, I might go back just to hang in the bar/ restaurant... And, the lunch was way more than expected in quality !!!!

There are some really nice hotels in Baltimore, but this definitely tops the list. This used to be the Mt. Vernon hotel, but it was bought out and renovated by the boutique Indigo chain and re-opened this past spring, so it's brand spanking new. I loved the touches outside- a cool sign, huge potted plants, new sidewalk. Walking in was even better- the lobby and hotel are done in subtle gray shades, with pops of color here and there, it was beautiful. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The rooms were gorgeous, and had so many unique touches. The sales rep mentioned that they style each hotel after the neighborhood it's in, and so this one was themed after Poe and the Enoch Pratt library (across the street.) Murals on the back wall were sketched to look like library shelves, with Raven's perching, very cool. The bathroom shower had beautiful tile, and they didn't skimp when it came to amenities (in-room Kurig, WiFi, premium toiletries, etc.) Valet parking is available for an additional fee. Pets are also welcome for a small deposit- and not in the 'yeah they're ok' type of welcome, but like bowls of treats and water and a little chalkboard with their names kind of welcome, it was very cute. Definitely a luxurious, well-worth-the-money hotel.

Baltimore gained some cool points with this hotel renovation for SURE. Living in the neighborhood myself, literally spitting distance, I remember the infamous Mt. Vernon Hotel. The historic building (it was a YMCA back in the day as other reviewers have pointed out) looks pretty much exactly the same on the outside, except now there’s a beautiful new sidewalk with inlayed brick and giant potted plants. They also got rid of those terribly tacky maroon awnings. Their lobby/sitting area is freshly renovated and furnished with elegant, yet vibrant furniture; I felt super fancy in there!

Poets is the in-house restaurant, which has a really great Happy Hour, very good cocktails (!!including a BYO Manhattan!!), and a menu full of locally inspired dishes (Old Bay wings, crab, other yumminess). I was told by a member of the kitchen staff that they locally source when they can. Huge bonus.

And the rooms. . . lovely. Each one has some sort of Baltimore-themed mural on the wall. The bathrooms are spa-inspired, bright, gorgeous -- but not all of them have tubs, so make sure you request one if you like soaking. Also, they have those coffee/espresso machines that you put the little cup in. I just think that's so awesome. From the way the building is positioned, it seems like it would be impossible to have a bad view because there's so much great architecture around.

This is definitely one of the nicest hotels Baltimore has to offer, especially because of its location in the historic Mt. Vernon neighborhood. If you want to experience the real Baltimore and be pampered in a trendy (but still charming) setting, this is the one!

Completely agree with both Arlo and Lynn this is not a place I would go back to, formerly a YMCA and most definietly feels like it!

Very disappointing. You'd think that when a hotel markets itself as historic, they'd try at some level to provide a sense of nostalgia of glory days gone by. Not so here. The Mount Vernon Hotel feels institutional and uninviting. The front desk alone has the feel of a hospital reception desk, and something about the lobby reminds me of depictions of prison from TV. It's also not in the greatest part of Baltimore. The neighborhood isn't bad, there's just not a lot going on. And all of the major Baltimore attractions are just far enough to require a car/taxi. Overall, it's not someplace I'd embrace going back to.

This historic hotel used to be a YMCA and it still feels like one. It is beyond bad taste or lacking in amenities, it is downright scary. It may be an option for some on a budget, but you could not pay me to come back here for a stay.
