heart of the city. Opened in 1985 on the site of a former bathhouse by musician Kaspar Peterson, the brewery offers at least ten different certified organic beers, such as Bokbier, Zatte and Natte as well as appetizers like Trappist cheese dipped in beer, English-speaking bartenders and a cozy atmosphere. Enjoy a drink in the large standing room where vintage beer bottles line the tiled walls or sip a bubbly while relaxing with friends on the outdoor benches, surrounded by vines. Free tours are available.

Great beers, great place, but it can be very busy. A lot of types of beers. From light and white to dark and brown.

One of the most iconic bars in Amsterdam is also a brewery itself. Brouwerij 't IJ is a well known place in Amsterdam located away from the tourist traps of Amsterdam. You can't get more Dutch than a brewery with a windmill, great beer and a pristine location in Amsterdam. You can spend quite some time here doing tours, tastings and enjoying the outside terrace space when the weather is nice. But of course, the main drag is the beer! There is a great selection from Blonds, White beers and their famous I.P.A.. Do yourself a favor and visit this bar for true Amsterdam beer.

Local brewery inside an old windmill. Great beer, fun atmosphere. Bar snacks only, although food trucks and restaurants close by.

A brewery in an old windmill! A truly unique Dutch experience. This place is generally packed with locals. They have great handcrafted beers at great prices.

This place is Amsterdam in a nutshell, a windmill and cheap beers brewed on site, all while sitting by a canal. Located just west from Centraal Station, Brouwerij’tij has a great atmosphere with laid back staff who are happy to give you recommendations of the multiple beers they have on draught. Interiors are fun! Beer bottles cover the wall from just about every country you can think of. Also it’s likely that they will be brewing while you’re there, so sitting outside can be less noisy (and much prettier). Get in early as it packs out in the summer.

If you love beer than this is a must stop in Amsterdam! Great beers, great atmosphere and just an all around fun place to be! A little off the beaten path so it isn't full of tourists. I know I will be going back!

Wanted to avoid taking friends to the Heineken experience, so Browerij 't Ij it was! Unfortunately for us, the English language tour was sold out 20 minutes beforehand (they don't take advanced bookings) so we opted for their tasting menu at the bar.
They offer 5 different tastes in small but good-sized glasses, some more hoppy or fruity than others. I'm not a beer person, but enjoyed the outdoor seating and the snacks. Will have to come back another time for the tour.

Many visitors are excited to explore the world of Heineken while they’re in town – but if you want to try beer that you aren’t likely to find anywhere else, make your way to the IJ Brewery. Located a little off the beaten track, in the east-side of the city (close to the Troppenmuseum), the Brouwerij ‘t IJ (its Dutch name) boasts an all-organic selection of brews. Apart from a standard selection, they also prepare a seasonal selection.

New YORK!

Totally efficient bar-hopping: not only do you get to drink locally made beers, you get to do it in a windmill! So it's like two bits of Amsterdam culture in one stop. A little bit out of the center, but worth it. The bar does weekly tours of the brewery too--afternoons on Fridays, I think? Beware the odd opening hours--it closes fairly early.

Amazing brewery! The beer is brewed right in the windmill, which is a unique touch. It gets really busy, filled with locals- so it's a great place to step out of the tourist center. It's definitely a must-see for beer lovers, I highly recommend!

Awesome brewery in Amsterdam. The food is great, the beer is amazing and people are really nice! It is located in a typical windmill and always crowded, be sure to arrive early if you want a place to sit.

The brewery is not in the center itself but it's in walking distance. Go here to taste some of their own beers that are made on the premises in this old windmill. Especially great to do on a sunny afternoon.

Brewery 't IJ has the best White Beer of the Netherlands! The brewery features a tasting room, which is open every day from 14:00h to 20:00h, a bar, and tours through the brewery itself are possible as well.

A really nifty brewery tasting room in the base of a windmill in the center of Amsterdam, Brouwerij 't IJ is a neat place to stop for an afternoon rest during your adventures in the city. They serve 4 or 5 different types of beer, all micro brewed on site.

Beer and windmills on a sunny afternoon? Being Dutch has never been better!

Local brewery next to a windmill in the city center. It is very touristic, but the beers are great so it’s worth a visit. They also serve light appetizers.
