There are over 600 hotels in greater Amsterdam, but it doesn’t get much more majestic than the neo-gothic Conservatorium Hotel. The monumental former music conservatory on Museumplein now houses a five-star stunner with 129 rooms, a holistic spa and a great in-house Asian restaurant.

super convenient if you're intent on visiting the famous museums and the concert hall. a bit further south from other sites but at least it's close to vondelpark. luxurious hotel though due to the original architecture some room layouts may not be for all.

This modernist masterpiece was originally a bank 100 years ago and Italian designer Piero Lissoni’s kept the original mosaic tiled piggy banks on the walls and huge sandstone staircases to prove it. Walking into the hotel you feel like you’re in a sun-drenched leafy courtyard. The glass atrium-style lobby and brasserie literally makes you feel like you’re sun baking while having a drink in the lounge. The loft-style Royal Deluxe room gets perfect afternoon sun, there’s a dining table, two huge TVs and a big tub to soak in while you lap up the views of the city and museum quarter (it’s located right across from the Stedelijk modern art museum.) The Conservatorium has everything and more you’d expect from a luxe hotel: indoor pool, spa (the hot seashell massage or jade tonifying facials are a favourite), gym, classes, personal trainers, and shopping boutiques. Oh, and there’s always Tunes Restaurant & Bar which serves Asian-style tapas and a DJ plays later in the evenings. Pure heaven!

Only 3 years old and still a relatively young hotel, the Conservatorium has already made a name for itself as the pit-stop location for luxury travelers in Amsterdam. Located across the street from the Stedelijk museum, the Conservatorium is a large building that used to most recently house a music conservatory. The hotel is also a popular destination for locals, with its’ high end range of beauty boutiques on the ground floor and the chic and intimate Tunes Bar, THE place to enjoy a small tapas or sushi snack alongside your afternoon cocktail. Or, if you prefer open and bright spaces, take a seat in the ‘internal courtyard’, where the brasserie and lounge is located. The all-glass walls and open ceiling provide clarity even in those cloudy days.

Brought to you by the same owners of the Mamilla in Jerusalem - which has raised the bar on design in the city - this 129-room hotel is set in a former music conservatory and before that a bank. This is high Dutch Gothic at its best, though Italian interior designer Piero Lissoni has done a simply terrific job of blending this with a more contemporary look. Around half of the rooms and suites are duplexes, giving a real sense of space in a city not renowned for the generous proportions of its hotel rooms. The Stedelijk, Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum are just a stone's throw away, as are Vondelpark and the chic boutiques of P.C. Hooftstraat.

New slick luxury hotel in Amsterdam. Architect and designer Piero Lissoni has partly encased a former19th-century music school in glass. The 129 rooms feature midcentury and contemporary furnishings mixed with vintage Asian pieces.
