The place is amazing, if you are into historical places I would more than recommend you to visit the lighthouse of Alexandria/ Taking walk around or taking little boat to take you around on the sea - great idea! Although, I have to warn you, people here and not very "multicultural", meaning that if they see tourist they will run to you and ask you for 158754 selfies, which is okay for first, second, third time. But after fourth time, you are going to be pretty annoyed and for them NO is no answer, sometimes they can be even rude or agressive. As usually, people around will try to squeeze you from money by selling you stuff or just asking you for money. Overall, my opinion is that if you are not experienced traveller that is used to these kind of things, or if you are not in organized group, dont go there by yourself (espesially not female solo traveller), some places of Egypt are not well developed and poor .

The Lighthouse of Alexandria is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was a tall structure, probably near 400 feet, that shown a light to guide boats toward the city. At that tall, it's light could potentially be seen about 30 miles away.

The lighthouse isn't there anymore (all the Wonders save the pyramids are gone), but the base is still there.

There isn't tons to do in Alexandria - when we were in Egypt we only took a day trip to Alexandria, but this was a must-see sight we stopped to visit after lunch. You don't need a lot of time to see this, but since it is one of the 7 Ancient Wonders, it's worth visiting!
