Terminal Information

Manchester Airport

There are three terminals at Manchester Airport, both Ryanair and Flybe flights to Milan depart from Terminal 3. Manchester Airport advises passengers travelling on European flights to check-in two hours before their scheduled flight departure time.

Manchester Airport’s Terminal 3 has a great range of facilities. Shops include Boots, WHSmith, Accessorize and a duty free store. There are plenty of food and drink options too and a premium lounge if you’d prefer a quieter place to spend the time before your flight.

Milan Malpensa Airport

Milan Malpensa Airport is the bigger of Milan’s airports. It is located 49 kilometres northwest of Milan city centre. Flybe flights arrive to Terminal 1. In the arrivals hall, which is located on the ground floor, passengers will find an information desk, car hire offices, currency exchange and a selection of cafés and shops.

Car hire companies based in Terminal 1 include Avis, Budget, Dollar, Gold Car, Thrifty, Maggiore, Hertz and Europcar. If you choose to hire a car, you can use the Malpensa Airport website to find real time updates on the traffic around the airport and Milan.

Other transportation options from the airport include taxis, which are based outside exit 6 of Terminal 1. A journey into Milan usually costs around €90.00. There’s also a train which runs directly to the city from the airport and takes between 30 and 45 minutes depending on your final destination or a number of coaches which depart every 20 minutes and take just under an hour to reach the city centre.

Milan Bergamo Airport

Milan Bergamo Airport (also known as Il Caravaggio International Airport or Orio al Serio Airport) is located 45 kilometres northeast of Milan city centre. There is just one terminal at Bergamo Airport.

In the arrivals hall passengers will find car hire desks for Sixt, Maggiore, Hertz, Europcar, Locauto, Avis and Budget. Taxis and buses also leave from outside the terminal building. You can expect to pay around €70.00 for a taxi ride into the city centre. Another option is taking the bus to the nearby Bergamo train station, which has regular connections to Milan centre.

What to Expect in Milan

Milan enjoys warm weather throughout most of the year. In the spring and autumn you may experience some rain showers but you’ll also have pleasant temperatures in the mid-twenties. Summer months, when temperatures creep into the thirties and thunderstorms are commonplace, can be a little too hot for some. Winters are generally warmer than they are in Manchester and there’s much less rain too.

Prices in Milan and Manchester are more or less the same. You can expect to pay around €60.00 for a mid-range three course meal for two and €4.00 for a bottle of beer. Public transport is much cheaper, however, and you can get a wonderful coffee for less than half the price you’d pay in Manchester.

Milan is one hour ahead of the UK.
