Belfast International and Belfast City
Airlines that fly from Liverpool to Belfast
There are two airports which serve the city of Belfast – Belfast International Airport and Belfast City Airport. Low cost airlines fly to both airports from Liverpool.
Flybe has direct flights to Belfast City Airport, available daily, while Easyjet flights go from Liverpool to Belfast International Airport, also available daily.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport
There is just one terminal at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The airport advises that passengers arrive two hours before their flight in order to pass through check-in and security in plenty of time.
In the departure lounge there are a number of shops, restaurants and facilities for passengers. There’s a Boots, WHSmiths and a Travelex currency exchange for holiday essentials and a duty free shop for luxury items. Eating and drinking venues include Frankie & Benny’s, Wetherspoon’s, Subway and The Estuary Kitchen and Grill. There’s also a blow dry and beauty bar where passengers can indulge in a relaxing treatment in preparation for their trip.
Passengers have the option of upgrading to the Aspire Premium Lounge where complimentary drinks and snacks, newspapers, magazines and free Wi-Fi are available. It’s possible to book in advance to avoid disappointment. You can also book a Fast Track ticket in advance to bypass the queues at security.
Belfast City Airport
Passengers travelling with Flybe will arrive to Belfast City Airport which is 4 miles from the centre of Belfast. The airport is surrounded by a good road network and offers easy access to Belfast city centre. A number of car hire companies operate from Belfast City Airport and include Europcar, Enterprise, Avis, Budget and Hertz.
Getting to the city centre by public transport is also possible. A shuttle bus operates the airport and Sydenham train station, which has regular connections to a variety of destinations. There are also buses which go directly into Belfast city centre. The Airport Express 600 runs every 20 minutes from Monday to Saturday and every 40 minutes on Sundays, between 5:45 and 21:25. It goes from outside the airport to the Belfast Europa Bus Centre in the centre of the city.
Taxis are also available outside the terminal and a journey to the city centre will take about 20 minutes
Belfast International Airport
Passengers travelling with Easyjet will arrive to Belfast International Airport which is approximately 20 miles north west of the city centre. Car hire from Belfast International Airport is available with car hire companies located within the terminal and motorway connections into Belfast.
Taxis approved by the airport can be found at the taxi rank outside the terminal building. A taxi share scheme is available to help save on costs and taxis can be booked in advance.
Public transport connections are also easy from Belfast International Airport, with buses and coaches leaving from outside the terminal building and providing regular services to Belfast, Lisburn and Londonderry. The Airport Express 300 departs for Belfast city centre every 15 minutes at peak times, 24 hours a day. The bus stops at Belfast Europa Bus Centre in the city centre and the journey takes between 30 and 40 minutes.
As a British national, you don’t need your passport in order to travel to Belfast. However, you will need some form of photographic ID. A number of ID cards are accepted by both Flybe and Easyjet but it’s wise to check with your chosen airline for up-to-date information.
What to Expect in Belfast
The weather in Belfast is similar to that of Liverpool although it may be a few degrees cooler. Prices are much the same in the two cities. However, you may find that public transport costs in Belfast are a little cheaper, while eating out can be a bit more expensive.
