Terminal Information – Departing
This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.
British Airways fly from Terminal 5 and Singapore Airlines fly from Terminal 2 (the Queen's Terminal). Both terminals have a range of high-end designer shops and swanky restaurants. There's also a good selection of executive lounges in each.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Arrival terminals at Singapore Airport are usually only announced two hours before landing. All of the airport's terminals are connected by a free Skytrain service, and you can also walk between them. If you're en route to Australia or another Southeast Asian country and have a five hour or longer layover you can take advantage of the free city tour service. There are Free Singapore Tour booths located in every terminal. If you're staying in Singapore it's easy to get into the city centre. There's a Ground Transport Desk in every arrival hall and from here you can book flat-rate transport to your hotel. The Airport Shuttle costs $9* (just under £4.50), a limousine is $50* (just over £24.50), a four-seater car is $55* (about £27) and a seven-seater is $60 (about £29.50).* There's a taxi rank outside the airport. By day you can expect to pay $20-30* (about £10-15) for a ride into the city, and at night you'll pay an extra 50% as a surcharge. There's also an MRT station, where you can ride to Tanah Merah and change to a city-bound service. Tickets cost $1.90* (about 95p) plus a $1* (roughly 50p) deposit. There are also bus stations in each terminal, and you can expect to pay less than $2* (about £1) for a trip into the city. Avis and Budget have desks in every terminal, and Hertz have a base in terminals 2 and 3. Remember to compare car hire at Singapore Airport to find the best prices.
British passport holders don't need a visa for visits of 30 days or less. This covers tourism, flight transfers, business meetings, and visiting with friends or family. For any other reason, e.g. if you're planning to work or volunteer in Singapore, speak to the consulate. Your passport must be valid for a full six months after the day you enter the country, even if you're just passing through. Some readily available over-the-counter and prescription medicines are controlled substances in Singapore, and you will need to apply for permission from the Singapore Health Sciences Authority to bring them into the country.
