Airlines that fly from London to Kuala Lumpur
British Airways and Malaysia Airlines both provide direct flights from London to Kuala Lumpur. Both airlines depart from London Heathrow Airport and arrive to Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
London Heathrow has four terminals. Malaysia Airlines flights to Kuala Lumpur depart from Terminal 4 and British Airways flights depart from Terminal 5. The airport advises all passengers on long haul flights to arrive at check-in three hours before their scheduled flight departure time. If you’re travelling through Terminal 4, you’ll find check-in desks located on the first floor, and if you’re travelling through Terminal 5, you’ll find check-in desks on the top floor.
The departure areas at both Terminal 4 and Terminal 5 are equipped with all of the facilities you’ll need to relax, shop or get a bite to eat whilst waiting for your flight. Both terminals are home to high street shops, duty free stores and designer boutiques. There’s a great selection of restaurants, cafés and bars too as well as free Wi-Fi connection and currency exchange counters.
Kuala Lumpur Airport
Kuala Lumpur International Airport is the city’s main airport. It’s located 48 kilometres from the city centre. The airport has both a Main and a Satellite terminal, with the majority of international flights arriving to the latter.
In the arrivals hall, passengers will find information desks and a currency exchange. Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal free of charge for up to three hours. Car hire desks are located in the Main Terminal.
There are a number of options for onward travel from Kuala Lumpur Airport. Taxis and limos are available from outside the terminal building. You’ll need to pre-pay for your journey at a booth inside the Satellite Terminal arrival hall, just after customs and before the public arrival area. Standard metered taxis are available at level 1 and level 3 of the main Terminal.
Bus and coach services offer a variety of routes into Kuala Lumpur and surrounding areas providing a cheap way to travel. However, if speed is your priority, the Express Rail Link provides the quickest way to get into Kuala Lumpur city centre. The KLIA Ekspres takes just 28 minutes to reach Kuala Lumpur and costs RM55.00 for a single adult journey.
British nationals don’t need a visa to travel to Malaysia but you will need a passport valid for a minimum of six months from your date of entry into Malaysia. Tourist visitors are normally given permission when they arrive to stay in the country for three months. If you’re planning a longer stay, you will need to apply for a visa in advance of travel.
What to Expect in Kuala Lumpur
Warm temperatures and high rainfall are fairly consistent throughout the year in Kuala Lumpur. Temperatures reach up to the mid-thirties and only ever drop to the mid-twenties. Rainfall is usually heavy but brief. However, if you’re travelling to Kuala Lumpur during one of its two monsoon seasons (March to April and October to November) you may experience downpours lasting for an hour or so.
Dining, drinking and shopping are all much cheaper in Kuala Lumpur than in London. You can expect to find a mid-range three course meal for two for RM60.00 (£9.00), a bottle of beer for RM15.00 (£2.30) and a one way journey on public transport for just RM2.00 (£0.35). Taxi travel and supermarket shopping are both also exceptionally cheap.
