Flights from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area arrive at one of three major airports. These include Washington National Airport (DCA), Dulles International Airport (IAD), and Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI). Flights from Boston to Washington offered by United Airlines, JetBlue, and American Airlines fly to either Washington National or Dulles International Airport. Southwest and Spirit Airlines provide flights to Baltimore Washington International Airport. Most cheap flights from Boston to Washington are nonstop, and they average around 90 minutes per trip.

It's important to remember that photo ID will be required to get through security. Domestic flights from Boston to Washington on United Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and American Airlines all depart from Terminal B at Logan International Airport. Domestic routes from Boston to Washington on Southwest use Terminal A, and JetBlue flights depart from Terminal C. Starbucks as well as Dunkin' Donuts are available at all terminals if you would like a hot drink or snack. Each terminal also has a variety of restaurants offering quick meals if you require something more substantial before your flight.

Once you arrive in Washington, you may choose to rent a car. All three of the major airports have access to rental car companies, but it is advisable to make a reservation before your departure. At Washington National Airport, the rental car counters are located in Terminal Garage A on the first floor. Baltimore/Washington International has a separate rental location, and shuttles are available from the airport to the remote rental lot. If you arrive at Dulles International, you'll need to take the shuttle offered by the agency that holds your reservation.

Warmer Temperatures and Savings on Hotel Stays

Boston and Washington are both in the Eastern time zone, so there is no need to make adjustments for time differences. You should find a modest savings in accommodation costs in Washington compared to Boston. In addition, temperatures are a few degrees warmer in Washington, especially in the humid summers.

Visit Historic Sites

There are many attractions that are inexpensive or even free. The Library of Congress is worth a visit for its breathtaking interiors, murals, and artwork alone. At the National Archives, the Declaration of Independence is on display alongside the Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States. There is no charge for entry. Flash photography is prohibited and this policy is strictly enforced. Portraits of important and influential Americans are on display at the National Portrait Gallery. These artworks include paintings, and photographs. The gallery does not charge for admission.
