Wizz Air due to establish its fifth European base

Cheap flights carrier Wizz Air will celebrate its fifth anniversary by establishing its 11th base in Prague next month.

The airline, which began services from Katowice in Poland in May 2004, currently has ten bases in Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine.

Wizz Air chief executive Jozsef Varadi said the airline has "come a long way" since its launch.

"Five years ago we had an idea of a low-cost airline and an inspiration to fly a lot of people," he commented.

"Five years later we have the largest low-cost airline in the region making low-cost travel accessible to millions of people."

The carrier currently flies to 21 countries on its 130 routes, having carried approximately 18 million passengers since it was established.

Its fleet consists of 23 aircraft, a total which is expected to grow to 82 by 2014.

Wizz Air will launch new flights to Varna from London Luton on June 27th.

The seasonal flight will be operated on a twice-weekly basis until September 5th.
