Spain still big for August bank holiday reveals Skyscanner

Brits are still heading for Spanish shores en masse this August bank holiday, travel search site Skyscanner can reveal.

Data from Skyscanner shows six Spanish cities feature in the top ten most searched for destinations for travel over the August bank holiday period and it seems the Brits still want sun, sand and sangria in the eternally popular Spain.

However, there has been a slight change in British preferences for August bank holiday travel compared to last year. Murcia and Dublin have both dropped out of the top ten and have been replaced by new entries, Dalaman in Turkey and New York.

Barry Smith, Skyscanner co-founder and director said:

"Despite everything that has been thrown at Spanish tourism recently – bombings, expensive euros and the general recession – Spain still remains massively popular with the Brits. With a wet August in the UK, lots of Brits seem to be heading to Alicante, Malaga and Palma, which for a second year running are the top three most popular places for us to go on holiday for the August bank holiday. As a nation, the UK is still in love with Spain."

Skyscanner recently reported that ETA bombings had little effect on Brits wanting to holiday in Spain, with flight searches from the UK to Spain actually increasing by 10% since August.
