Cheap flights carrier Jet2.com will launch new flights to Dalaman, Crete and Gran Canaria from Newcastle International Airport next summer.
As part of its 2010 summer schedule, the airline will also be introducing flights to Paphos and Sharm el Sheikh from the north-east airport, with the new routes due to take effect in May 2010.
Jet2.com chief Philip Meeson said that the north-east has "real growth potential" in terms of leisure business.
"The people here have really embraced Jet2.com and love flying with us," he commented.
"The new routes are in response to that demand and the new jobs will also hopefully show our renewed commitment to this great region."
Jet2.com confirmed that more than 450 jobs would be created in the north-east as a result of the new routes.
Chief executive of Newcastle International David Laws said that holidaymakers in the region would be afforded "additional choice and flexibility" as a result of the new flights.
