Etihad Airways has launched new direct flights to Larnaca, Cyprus from its base in Abu Dhabi.
The inaugural flight to the destination took off from Abu Dhabi airport on June 14th and successfully landed later that day at Larnaca.
According to Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ chief commercial officer, the opening of the new route will be welcomed by tourists as United Arab Emirates residents in particular are looking to Cyprus as a viable location for a short weekend break.
"The launch of flights between Abu Dhabi and Larnaca is very special for Etihad Airways as it completes our hat-trick of flight launches to destinations in the Mediterranean this summer which includes Athens and Istanbul," he commented.
"We anticipate tremendous demand from leisure travellers flying for their summer break in Cyprus."
The route will be serviced by a two-class Airbus A320 aircraft, with flights scheduled for Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Etihad Airways opened its direct route to Athens from Abu Dhabi on June 2nd, thereby offering passengers access to a 12th European destination.
