European expansion planned by easyJet

Cheap flights carrier easyJet will introduce new flights to Mahon, Sharm el Sheikh and Zurich from Manchester next year.

The establishment of a fifth aircraft at the north-west airport will be used to accommodate the flights, which are part of a wider European expansion plan.

Doncaster Sheffield will be added to easyJet’s route network, with the carrier launching new flights to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Faro, Palma and Prague from the airport.

The new routes will ensure that easyJet becomes the largest airline operating from the north of England, with 18 percent of its UK capacity stemming from the region.

Paul Simmons, the airline’s UK regional general manager, said: "easyJet is committed to expansion across the UK regions, tapping in to new catchment areas such as Yorkshire and Humberside and providing greater access to our famously low fares and convenient services from your local airport."

The carrier said this week that it expects to carry 900,000 passengers on its routes during the Christmas period.
