EasyJet begins new Stockholm services

Cheap flights carrier easyJet has started its new services from Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport, with the airline also set to begin services from Geneva on Monday.

Commenting on the airline’s growth, Mats Sigurdson, director of aviation marketing at Luftfartsverket (LFV), the state enterprise that operates the major Swedish airports, said that the decision would benefit Arlanda because easyJet is one of Europe’s "most important" airlines.

"Airline industry growth is occurring mainly among low fare airlines, of which easyJet is the best-reputed," he said.

"By now launching two routes from Stockholm-Arlanda, easyJet is showing that it regards Stockholm as a future destination and that its traffic to Stockholm will grow."

The chief executive of easyJet said earlier this month that his airline was expecting to benefit from the current economic turmoil, predicting that more passengers would be prepared to sacrifice designated seats and complimentary drinks in order to save on cost.

Analysts at the Royal Bank of Scotland recently predicted that cheap flights carriers would benefit more than their full-service competitors from the fall in oil prices.
