More people appear to be escaping to warmer climates earlier this year, figures from cheap flights carrier Monarch have revealed.
The low-fares airline reported an increase in traffic to its mid-haul destinations last month as more people go on holiday in search of warmer weather.
It was also revealed that demand was particularly strong for flights to Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar.
Among the most popular mid-haul destinations were Tenerife, Lanzarote and Larnaca.
Commenting on the upturn in demand, Liz Savage, Monarch’s managing director of flights and holidays, said: "The mid-haul destinations within Monarch’s scheduled network have once again proven they are firm favourites with customers."
The airline has said that it carried 70 percent more passengers to Larnaca compared to the same period last year, while Lanzarote and Tenerife saw respective increases of 32 percent and 11 percent.
Monarch began a twice-weekly flight to Larnaca from Birmingham on Sunday (March 29th).
The Cypriot destination an also be reached on the airline’s routes from Gatwick, Luton and Manchester.
