Cheap flights carrier Wizz Air has announced plans to open its tenth European base at Timisoara Airport in Romania.
The airline will open the new operating base next March and offer cheap flights from Romania to a series of destinations in Central and Eastern Europe.
Three new A320 aircraft will be based in Timisoara and over 100 new members of staff will be employed as the airline invests €100 million into the project.
Flights to Milan Bergamo and Venice Treviso will be added at the airport in March as will flights to Barcelona and Valencia in Spain.
Two weekly flights to Paris Beauvis will also be introduced at Timisoara in March. The flights added as part of the operational base project will follow the December introduction of cheap flights to London, Rome and Dortmund.
John Stephenson, chief commercial officer of Wizz Air explained that Timisoara will become the airline’s third operating base in Romania after Bucharest and Cluj.
"With 22 weekly flights we will become the largest low-cost airline offering the most routes and the biggest capacity to passengers travelling to [and] from the Banat region," he said.
Meanwhile, Wizz recently took delivery of a new A320 at Sofia Airport which will be used on new flights from Bulgaria to Brussels, Rome, Milan, Barcelona and Valencia.
