Robin Hood Airport has welcomed low-cost airline Wizz Air’s decision to launch flights to Vilnius from the Yorkshire airport.
The Hungarian-based airline will operate flights to the Lithuanian capital from Robin Hood Airport on Wednesdays and Sundays, with services departing at 20:25.
Nick Smillie, Robin Hood Airport’s aviation sales director, said he is "pleased" to confirm Yorkshire’s first direct flights to the Baltic region.
"This new route will bring a further 30,000 passengers a year through the doors at Doncaster Sheffield Airport," he commented.
"We expect this additional route to increase Wizz Air’s total passenger numbers from the airport to reach 230,000 per annum."
Wizz Air established itself at Robin Hood Airport in October 2006 with the launch of flights to Katowice.
During this year’s August bank holiday, more than 16,000 passengers passed through Robin Hood in what is the airport’s busiest period of the year.
