Virtually There gains Sabre gold award

Sabre has gained recognition at a leading travel awards event.

Global distribution system (GDS) provider Sabre has gained recognition at a leading travel awards event for a mobile-web programme that offers business travellers sophisticated up-to-speed flight information.

Said to offer travellers all the information needed for air travel, Sabre’s Virtually There programme has been granted the Gold Innovation Award at London’s 2008 Business Travel Innovation Awards.

The service enables Sabre-subscribed online travel agents to offer customers advanced up-to-speed flight information on their mobiles including flight schedule and notification alerts, gate assignments and TSA security checkpoint wait times.

Greg Webb, chief marketing officer for Sabre, said: "With more than three billion mobile phones in use around the world and the majority now web-enabled, there’s clearly a market for delivering timely and relevant travel services direct to the mobile phone. Travellers benefit by having access to a whole new suite of information on the go, and our agency customers benefit by having the tools to better serve their travellers around the clock."

The Business Travel Innovation Awards are one of the most prestigious events in the travel technology calendar, offering plaudits to companies providing the most innovative solutions for integrating travel-related services.
