To make sure you can start your holiday the right way, here is a breakdown of TUI’s hand luggage size and weight restrictions:

  • Cabin-size bag: One bag per passenger over two years old, with maximum dimensions of 55x40x20cm and a weight limit of 10kg.

  • Small personal item: One item (e.g., handbag, laptop bag) that fits under the seat in front (40x30x20cm).

  • Pushchairs: Allowed as hand luggage if within the size and weight limits.

In terms of checked-in luggage, most TUI package holidays include 20kg as standard, with families with children under the age of two getting an extra 10kg. You also get 25kg of luggage included with bookings onto the following packages:

  • Long-haul Premium

  • TUI BLUE

However, checked-in luggage isn’t included with standard flight-only bookings. You can purchase 15kg, 20kg, or 25kg, starting from £40 per journey.

Expert luggage tips:

  • Pool luggage weight: If traveling as a group, combine your checked-in luggage allowance to avoid individual excess baggage fees.

  • Use luggage scales: Weigh your bags before heading to the airport to avoid unexpected charges or delays.

  • Pre-book special items: Contact TUI in advance to secure space for sports equipment, musical instruments, or other oversized items.

Each country has different requirements and restrictions when it comes to customs. For example, you might not be allowed to travel with more than £10,000 in cash, goods worth over £2,500, or items from endangered species.

To avoid any delays or fines on your journey, make sure you declare these items. If you’re not sure, look on the country’s relevant government website for up-to-date information.

You also need to be aware of luggage restrictions, so you know what you can and cannot pack in your bags. The table, below, provides a helpful guide to restricted items and what’s actually allowed in your hand and checked-in luggage

Remember, these are general guidelines, and specific restrictions may vary depending on your destination.

Inflight essentials

Comfort & cosiness

Bring eye masks, scarfs, or neck pillows to travel in the ultimate comfort, blocking out distraction with earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones.

Quick refresh

Pack simple grooming essentials to step off the plane feeling refreshed. The likes of a toothbrush, facial wipes, and mini moisturisers can make a big difference after a long journey.

For the little ones

Always pack a goody bag to keep the kids entertained and comfortable on the flight. Toys, snacks, and other soft comforts will just make the journey much more enjoyable for the entire family.

Important documents

Invest in a compact document holder to keep all your passports, boarding passes, travel insurance and other paperwork safe and easily accessible. This will give you peace of mind while streamlining your travel experience.
