Travelport chosen for CSA hosting system

After months of negotiations, Travelport has been selected to provide its Meridian travel platform to the Czech national carrier.

After months of negotiations, Travelport GDS has been selected to provide its Meridian travel platform to the Czech national carrier.

Czech Airlines (CSA) will now benefit from UK-based Travelport’s wide range of hosting services, enabling the airline to enhance its efficiency on bookings, ticketing and passenger check-in operations.

The deal offers Travelport – part of the Worldspan network – its biggest hosting service agreement in Europe, while the Czech carrier will now be integrated into the SkyTeam alliance of Travelport GDS-served airlines, hoping to now close the technological gap on rivals.

According to EyeforTravel.com, CSA communications director Daniela Hupakova said: "The new system from Travelport GDS will speed up all of our processes from booking through to passenger check-in and the results will be felt not just by our employees but will also very much enhance the overall CSA customer experience."

Claiming that savings of CZK 1 billion (£30 million) could be achieved in five years, CSA vice president for information technologies, Jiri Devat, added: "The airline can expect that sales processed through the new system – which also supports electronic sales channels – will generate additional revenues."

CSA could soon join other eastern European flag carriers such as Hungary’s Malev and Poland’s LOT in being privatised, while its Prague Airport also looks set to be auctioned off to private bidders.
