Being able to shut out the roar of the plane engine, the squeak of the overhead locker, the wail of the baby behind you, or the drunken singing of the stag group in front will considerably lower your stress levels and make for a far more relaxing and enjoyable flight.
They also come in handy once you’ve touched down and are sharing a dorm with a bunch of backpackers, or a bed with your snoring husband (or wife).
Earplugs are a very cheap, very portable and very practical way of blocking out unwanted noise pollution. You can pay over £100 for state of the art earplugs, but in our experience, the best, most effective plugs are the simple, tapered foam style, which cost just a couple of pounds from any pharmacy or travel shop.
